What is Worth Choosing
El Conquistador offers a singular dining experience that is a must-try for New York residents seeking authentic Ecuadorian food. What sets this restaurant apart and makes it worth choosing is its unwavering dedication to the national cuisine, providing dishes that are often hard to find outside of the biggest metropolitan areas. The sheer breadth of the seafood and soup offerings, in particular, distinguishes it as a premier destination for coastal Ecuadorian fare.
A centerpiece of the menu is the Ceviches section. The classic Ceviche De Camarón is prepared in the distinctive Ecuadorian style, which often features a rich, balanced blend of tomato, onion, and citrus, offering a different and delightful experience compared to Peruvian or Mexican preparations. Similarly, the Sopa Marinera and Cazuela De Mariscos are testaments to the country's hearty and flavor-packed seafood stews, which are perfect comfort food, especially during the cooler New York months.
Beyond seafood, the restaurant offers an array of compelling choices for every palate. The Pollos (Chicken) section provides savory options like Pollo Asado Entero (Whole Roasted Chicken) or the uniquely flavored Pollo Al Jugo De Naranja (Chicken in Orange Juice). The Aperitivos are also a highlight, providing authentic small plates like Mote Pillo Con Llapingacho that serve as a perfect introduction to Ecuadorian street food culture and are excellent for sharing.
It is important to note a review mentioning a recent experience with a temporary water issue; while this is a serious concern, the restaurant's professional staff and the value of its authentic cuisine suggest that local patrons will continue to seek out its unique offerings. For adventurous diners in the New York area who value cultural exploration and exceptional, non-chain food, El Conquistador represents an accessible and delicious culinary expedition to Ecuador. Its cozy, family-friendly atmosphere, combined with the fast service and flavorful menu, cements its status as a local favorite for an authentic Latin meal in Sleepy Hollow.

November 16 · Bobby Thompson5:00 pm 9/22/24 I ordered two dinners. The waitress informed that the faucet water is brown and I should order bottled water. I shared that if the water is brown NYS regulations should be informed and the restaurant should be closed until they cure the situation . I cancelled my order of pescado encebillado. Waitress said that the fish was cooked this morning in clear water. I shared that’s even worse because it is not freshly cooked but leftover fish - again I stressed I did not want my order to and would pay only for the tostados con queso, fritada, coffee and batido and bottled water. I literally lost my appetite . Either (1)this waitress was pressing with compromised water unfit for consumption to manipulate more water bottles purchased or (2)the restaurant should be closed because with brown faucet water to cook and wash dishes it is unfit for the public -I’ll phone the management Monday for a response. This was a very unpleasant and embarrassing experience to invite my two guests to an Ecuadorian restaurant that I wanted to try for the first time .
September 22 · Patricia Benavidesour experience at this restaurant was poor. We were excited to have found an Ecuadorian restaurant. FIRST, we never got served any water and cutlery when we arrived . Food was bland and our orders delayed; when served, we were given plastic forks and knives wrapped in napkins . When we asked why were we given plastic cutlery, we were told that the silver cutlery had not been washed because there is no one at the kitchen to do so . Omg! ALSO, their menu is very limited .labs they do not make an efforts to substitute or give sides. They did not have the traditional and popular dishes. I had the pargo fish in oven. The fish had no flavor at all. I had to add some salt. The “fresh” juice was powder mixes or it was mostly water . LAST, the place was not kept clean . A table behind us was not cleaned after the customers finished . We had a table full with dirty plates the whole time we were there (we were there for about 2 hours). There were many other waiters hanging by the counter but we did not see any of them doing an effort to clean the tables and pick up the food from the floor they had food all over; A plus, our waiter was nice! She really tried to deliver good service. Although she was not very knowledgeable of the Ecuadorian food.
August 21 · Adriana S. BadiaFood is okay, Service very friendly, nice place,
March 30 · Francisco CalderonDo not go here! Food was cold and nasty! Prices are not correct, they over charge! I tried asking the waitress to speak to the owner and she completely refused and was rude! Don’t waste your time and money. Better places in town!
