Franky's Souvlaki Introduce
In the vibrant and dynamic neighborhood of Long Island City, New York, a culinary staple awaits those with a passion for authentic Greek flavors. Franky's Souvlaki is more than just a food spot; it is a long-standing institution that has been serving up the taste of Greece to New Yorkers for decades. What began as a humble family dream in 1970 has evolved into a beloved local gem, recognized for its commitment to classic, simple, and satisfying street food. While the dining scene in New York is constantly changing, Franky's Souvlaki stands firm, offering a consistent and genuine experience that attracts both lifelong residents and new visitors alike. The aroma of freshly grilled meats wafts through the air, creating an irresistible invitation to step up to the counter and embark on a delicious journey to the Mediterranean. It's a place where you can feel the warmth of a family legacy and enjoy a meal that is both comforting and authentically Greek.
The menu at Franky's Souvlaki is a celebration of Greek street food at its finest, focusing on a few core items executed with expert precision. As the name suggests, the star of the show is the souvlaki, featuring tender, perfectly seasoned skewers of your choice of meat, including chicken, pork, beef, or lamb. These can be enjoyed on their own as a quick snack or served in a warm pita bread for a substantial meal. The gyro is another crowd-pleaser, with its savory, thinly carved meat wrapped in a fresh pita with classic toppings. For a more complete dining experience, the rice platters are a popular choice, providing a generous serving of your preferred meat alongside their signature thick yellow rice. This rice is a notable highlight, praised by customers for its dense texture that digests slowly, helping you avoid that post-lunch slump. Complementing the main dishes are a variety of sides and sauces, including the famous “hot sauce and white sauce,” which regulars often request with a friendly and familiar shout-out. This focus on a limited, expertly prepared menu ensures every item is made to the highest standard, delivering consistent quality and flavor that has sustained its loyal following.

Franky's Souvlaki Reviews
So, I ordered one lamb stick and one chicken stick. The price on the menu was about $12–$13, but out of nowhere, the guy said, “These prices are from five years ago.” He explained that the current price is around $15 and some cents, including taxes and credit card fees. I found this a bit shady and really hope the business updates the prices on their menu. Otherwise, customers might place orders based on the wrong price and end up paying more than expected. The next issue I noticed was a construction worker smoking a cigarette right in front of the cart, near the salad bar. The cashier didn’t even bother to say anything to him. This is a serious health hazard since smoking shouldn’t happen so close to the food preparation area. The cashier should have addressed it, but they didn’t, which was unfortunate. On a positive note, they serve thick yellow rice, which is nice because it doesn’t digest as quickly as thin rice. This means you won’t feel sleepy afterward, if that’s a concern for you. As for the meat, it was just okay—decent but lacking flavor.Overall, I’d give this place a 4 out of 10. Unless they fix these issues, I wouldn’t visit again.
