What is Worth Choosing
Choosing a dish at Grandma's Bapsang is like choosing from a table of grandmother's best recipes, but the real heart of the menu lies in the handmade specialties and warming soups.
The most highly recommended dishes are the Kalguksu (hand-cut noodles) and the Mandu (dumplings). The noodle soups, especially the Clams Handmade Noodle Soup (바지락칼국수), are a local favorite, offering a savory, naturally-sweetened broth and chewy, satisfying noodles. Similarly, the house-made dumplings are a must-try; whether you prefer the Steamed Dumplings (찐만두) or the Boiled Meat Dumplings (물만두), the tight, flavorful filling is a testament to the kitchen's dedication to quality. For those who love a meal with a crispy texture, the Hot Stone Bibimbap (돌솥비빔밥) is a spectacle, allowing you to create the perfect scorched rice layer (socarrat) that adds a delightful crunch to the mixed-rice dish.
If you're in the mood for a hearty, restorative soup, the Beef Ribs Soup (갈비탕) or the simple yet rich Ox Bone Soup (설렁탕) are excellent choices for deep, savory broth. And for a unique comfort experience, try the Spicy Beef Soup (육개장) or the popular Kimchi Fried Rice (김치볶음밥).
Ultimately, what makes Grandma's Bapsang a standout choice in the crowded Fort Lee Korean scene is the palpable sense of authenticity and care. It’s a place where the food is more than just a meal—it’s a comforting, soulful experience, complete with an owner who embodies the welcoming spirit of a true Korean 'Halmae.' If your desire is to find a reliable source of traditional Korean comfort food in New Jersey, one that even local Korean parents approve of, look no further than this cozy spot on Lemoine Avenue.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My Korean parents are picky when it comes to food, and nowhere does that show up than with their own cuisine. So when they give their mark of approval to a Korean restaurant, I know it must be good. The name of the restaurant - Halmae Bapsang - translates to Grandma's Food Table, and that's quite literally what you should expect here. The owner is a sweet and fiercely joyful elderly woman who visits each table, sometimes to bring you your order or to wish you a happy meal. Our family ordered from all over the menu, and everything was markedly fresh. The cold noodles - whether in a broth or the spicy mixed version - are refreshing and chewy, while the kalguksu (or hot noodles) are filling and comforting. My mom is a particularly big fan of their dumpling soup, and I had the privilege of watching one of the chefs hand-making a new batch of dumplings. They are packed tight with filling and delicious. My own go-to order of hot stone bibimbap was spectacular (to note: they also have regular bowls of bibimbap for a few dollars cheaper). It's served with a squeeze bottle of gochujang so you can make it to your own spice level, and served with a bowl of rich ox bone soup. I tend to judge a restaurant's bibimbap by how crunchy the bottom layer of rice can get in the hot stone bowl, and the socarrat achieved here is tremendously charred and crunchy, adding the most amazing texture in this mixed rice dish.Orders are delivered to the table, but clean-up and retrieving or refilling water glasses are left up to the customers. This serves as a plus for two reasons - one, you don't have to wait on anyone for dining needs, and two, tip is optional. In fact, when my sister attempted to leave a customary 20% tip, the owner waved her away saying, "No, no, that's too much!"There are just a few tables and chairs, and a pretty small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant (as well as limited paid street parking right out front). Vibes here are small, simple, and cozy - just the way you'd expect it to be at grandma's place.
June 21 · Jane CSaw the reviews and came here for some grandmas cooking but failed miserably. First, the portions are so small for the prices. Paid $14.99 for shrimp dumplings and received 10 pinky size dumplings boiled in water. Kimchi and radish did not live up either. The galbi was under marinated and lacked flavor. Be good to your own grandma and ask her for food.
August 05 · Tiger KimDumplings are supreme! Every dish feels like sweet home. Restaurant is self-service. Dining area, bathroom are so clean and well maintained. And Korean grandma is sooooo sweat and lovely.🥰
May 11 · Jada ChanI wish I took a photo before I ate it. But, if you want something clean and delicious to eat for Korean food, this is THE spot to eat at out of the tri-state area. Usually Korean soup based foods tend to have either too much sodium and additives to make the flavor powerful, or not enough to bring the flavor out. Genuinely, you can NEVER go wrong with this place. I got 육개장 칼국수 (Spicy Beef Handmade Noodle Soup), and you can ask to see if you can add dumplings in the soup for extra.
June 28 · Sean JinThe person behind the counter was Super friendly and the place feels extremely homey, a lot of great options that I see on here for food and quite frankly I loved and enjoyed every bite. I would definetly come back here again if I’m in the area.Place gets two thumbs up from me.
