What is worth choosing
For any true New Yorker, the quality of a bagel comes down to a few critical factors: the hand-rolling process, the boiling step (which creates that distinct crust), and the chewiness of the dough—qualities often attributed to the region’s unique water. The name Hand Rolled Bagels explicitly signals a commitment to this high-quality, authentic method, which is why locals flock here for their daily fix. Choosing a true New York bagel is about preferring a freshly made, boiled-and-baked product over a commercially steamed one.
When visiting Hand Rolled Bagels in Rye, what’s truly worth choosing is one of their core offerings that showcase their commitment to fresh, quality ingredients. We recommend starting with the quintessential New York breakfast: an Egg, Bacon, and Cheese sandwich, served on one of their freshly baked, hand-rolled bagels. This combination is a local rite of passage and a perfect way to evaluate the quality of the bagel itself—soft, chewy, and capable of holding up to the fillings.
Alternatively, exploring their deli selection is a must. The extensive list of grill specials and wraps suggests that they utilize premium ingredients like Boar’s Head meats (as noted in search results for other locations, often consistent across brand operations), offering a deli experience that rivals the best in the area. Try one of the more unique-sounding grill options, such as the Grand Slam or Mike's Special, for a hearty lunch. Their classic deli function—Bagel Shop, Cafe, Deli—means you can depend on them for both a simple, perfectly-made Plain bagel and a complex, over-stuffed lunch hero.
The ability to secure a full, classic breakfast or lunch, combined with the convenience of in-store pickup and the explicitly stated wheelchair accessibility, makes Hand Rolled Bagels a practical and reliable choice for busy Westchester residents. While customer experiences can vary, the core product—the hand-rolled bagel itself—remains the central draw and a hallmark of authentic New York baking traditions, making this Rye location a worthwhile stop for your next meal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Really don't get the fascination with this place. Lines out the door. Parking, very few. Nothing special about the bagels. Certainly not for the cost, have had just as good in CT. When I was there, they messed up my order. Overall, not the worst, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.
August 10 · HA RI’ve been coming here for over a year and have always enjoyed their bagels. Unfortunately, today I experienced the worst customer service from a petite woman with a short, traditionally masculine haircut. She was extremely rude and difficult to communicate with. Save yourself the frustration and head over to Lenny’s Bagels instead — they offer a great variety of bagels and far better customer service.
June 17 · Cindy Roxanne BellaviaWent in looking for lunch. Had probably 3 to 4 people on line. Fridge was busted so couldn't get anything cold to drink. Was instructed to ask for a cup of ice. The customer service I received was from someone who i didn't realize worked there. Not to mention how rude she was. Would not recommend.
August 18 · Adolfo FigueroaIn all honesty, nothing special about the hand rolled bagels. In fact, very doughy. The prices are too high for mediocre food. Not to mention the little lady in the shop had too much attitude. Service sucked. I’ll try Lenny’s next time like another review suggested.
August 21 · Natalie MercadoA good place to buy your favorite Bagles, Tuna, egg and chicken salads. One thing though. It gets too crowded sometimes due to its smaller size.
