Heap's Ice Cream Introduce
Welcome to the ultimate guide for New York dessert enthusiasts, focusing on a gem right in the heart of Brooklyn: Heap's Ice Cream. Located in the vibrant Park Slope neighborhood, Heap's is more than just a scoop shop; it's a destination for high-quality, artisanal ice cream that perfectly blends nostalgic charm with creative, globally-inspired flavors. For New Yorkers seeking a delightful frozen treat, Heap's Ice Cream stands out as a must-visit local business that champions farm-fresh ingredients and community spirit.
Heap's Ice Cream was founded with a deep appreciation for the joyful dessert, a sentiment passed down through generations to founder Matt Lieber. The shop, named after his great-grandmother "Grandma Heap," embodies a warm, friendly spirit that makes it a true community hub on 7th Avenue. Co-founder Sarah Sanneh, a celebrated pastry chef, brings her expertise to crafting the exceptional recipes, ensuring that every flavor, from a simple vanilla to a complex Asian-inspired creation, is meticulously balanced and delicious. They are dedicated to using real, clean-labeled ingredients, with the dairy being locally churned at a farmhouse creamery in the Hudson Valley, sourced from pasture-raised cows. This commitment to premium quality and real ingredients is a hallmark of the Heap's brand and a key reason it has quickly become a beloved spot in the Brooklyn ice cream scene.
The atmosphere at Heap's is intentionally designed to be both casual and trendy. The exterior is notable for its vibrant green color, and the interior blends European influences with classic ice cream shop aesthetics, featuring striped walls and broken tile floors. This bright, welcoming environment is ideal for all types of visitors, whether you are stopping by for a quick solo treat or bringing the whole family. The establishment’s commitment to the neighborhood goes beyond just serving dessert; the shop actively engages with the community, even sponsoring the local softball team, reinforcing its identity as a true Park Slope fixture.
From its commitment to fresh, locally-sourced dairy to its innovative flavor combinations, Heap's has built a reputation among local food critics and residents alike for providing some of the finest ice cream and ice cream sandwiches in Brooklyn. They focus on making classic flavors taste like the best versions of themselves while introducing modern favorites that satisfy adventurous palates. This meticulous attention to detail in flavor development, texture, and ingredient quality is what makes Heap's a standout contender in the competitive New York dessert market.
The menu is crafted to appeal to both traditionalists and those looking for an exciting, new experience. Classics are elevated, while the bolder flavors introduce international influences and sophisticated palates to the humble scoop shop. The continuous introduction of seasonal and limited-edition flavors, sometimes even inspired by Brooklyn landmarks, keeps the menu fresh and exciting for frequent visitors. The unique texture and rich, premium nature of the ice cream itself are consistently praised by patrons.
One of the most notable aspects of the Heap's experience is the high praise directed at their ice cream sandwiches. These portable delights are created using custom recipes that ensure a perfect texture—a chewy cookie that holds up beautifully to the creamy ice cream filling. The shop has also engaged in exciting neighborhood collaborations, teaming up with other local Brooklyn food businesses to create truly unique, limited-edition ice cream sandwich combinations that reflect the diversity and creativity of the borough's culinary scene.
As a local institution, Heap's embraces its role as a neighborhood gathering place. The combination of a welcoming environment, friendly service, and truly exceptional ice cream makes it a perfect destination for celebrating life's sweetest moments. The shop encourages community-building, hoping to be the spot where locals gather after school or celebrate birthdays, even offering a free scoop of ice cream on your special day when you sign up.
The dedication to quality extends to their other offerings, including ice cream cakes that are perfect for any New York celebration, from birthdays to holiday gatherings. The availability of delivery services means that residents across the region can enjoy Heap's premium treats from the comfort of their homes.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I love Heap’s, where the flavors range from classics to should-be classics, like banana pudding, and cotton candy, and banana bourbon caramel. The menu is crisp and clear—no small thing—and the ice cream sandwiches are superb. I’m going to venture to say it has some of the finest ice cream sandwiches I have ever had.
September 21 · Andrew Russethjust discovered the most adorable ice cream shop in Brooklyn - Heaps ice cream shop. As soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted with a super welcoming vibe and a cute retro look that instantly put me in a good mood. The outdoor seating area was a lovely bonus, perfect for enjoying my treat on a nice day. Now, let's talk about the ice cream - oh boy, they have a ton of flavors to choose from! I was a bit overwhelmed, but in a good way. However, I did notice that some of the flavors had a bit of an odd aftertaste, which was slightly disappointing. The service at Heaps was top-notch, the staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience even more enjoyable. But, be prepared for a bit of a splurge, as the prices are on the higher side. Despite the expensive price range, I would still recommend Heaps to anyone with a sweet tooth. The unique feature of outdoor seating and the variety of ice cream flavors make it a great spot to grab a sweet treat and hang out with friends or family. Overall, Heaps is a great spot to satisfy your ice cream cravings, and I'm already planning my next visit!
June 19 · Katelyn MeyerLoved this ice cream shop! Staff was very friendly and helpful. I loved the variety of flavors…not so many that it was overwhelming, but some really unique flavors in addition to the classics. I ended up getting the Mango Sticky Rice, which I recommend. I also really appreciate the wholesome offer of getting a free scoop when you bring in a trophy. Such a cute idea! And free scoop on your birthday too.
May 17 · Megan McGlynnGood ice cream, if a bit too sweet. Would have loved the flavours to stand out a bit more amongst the creamy sweetness. It was really nice that they made our waffle cone on the spot but it was a bit too lightly toasted and because it was warm the ice cream also melted quicker. Will clme back to try more flavours!
June 13 · Bianca RitortoSmall ice cream shop selling scoops, cones, shakes, ice cream sandwiches and ice cream sushi. I tried both Smash the Candy Bag and Chocolate Chocolate and loved them but really loved the plain chocolate.
