Katabaru Introduce
In the sprawling and diverse culinary landscape of New York City, finding a truly authentic and unique dining experience can be a challenge. Katabaru, a sophisticated Japanese restaurant and cocktail bar in Brooklyn’s dynamic Williamsburg neighborhood, rises to the occasion with a focused and inspired approach. This is not just another sushi spot; Katabaru specializes in new Japanese cuisine inspired by the rich culinary traditions of the Kyushu region in southern Japan. By mixing traditional flavors with modern techniques, the restaurant crafts an inventive menu that is both deeply familiar and refreshingly new to the New York palate.
Katabaru offers an intimate and inviting atmosphere that feels like a quiet escape from the city’s relentless energy. The ambiance is carefully designed to be both "casual" and "cozy," with a sleek, modern aesthetic that still retains a warm, welcoming feel. Katabaru is located at 128 Meserole St, Brooklyn, NY 11206, USA. This address places it within a vibrant and easily accessible part of Brooklyn, at the crossroads of Williamsburg and Bushwick. For New Yorkers, the location is a significant convenience. The restaurant is a short walk from major subway lines, including the L train, which provides a direct and efficient link to Manhattan and other parts of Brooklyn. This makes it a perfect destination for both local residents and those looking to explore a different borough for their next dining adventure.
The surrounding neighborhood is known for its artistic and trendy vibe, with a mix of residential areas, creative studios, and other unique businesses. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1very quiet and low traffic on a Wednesday night. Not sure why, because the food was fabulous. It was delicately and carefully prepared - our favorites were the gomadare salad, tofu fire, and nanban donburi.Compliments: I’ve never had such tender delicious shiitake in a salad before. The cabbage in the nanban donburi was finely shredded and crunchy and so delicious with the tempura chicken; the tofu sauce savory and lightly sweet.
April 09 · Vivian LiFresh, well-balanced, and absolutely delicious Japanese food at an incredibly reasonable price. Easily one of my favorite dining experiences in Brooklyn—better than many Michelin-rated spots in the city that cost far more. The unagi don, chicken, and pork belly were standouts, and the drinks and matcha tiramisu were just as impressive. No wait, fast service, and a cozy atmosphere made the whole experience even better.
September 01 · Byron ZhangWe had an amazing experience here. The food was phenomenal, and the service was great. I can't rave enough about how much we enjoyed our dinner. Drinks are all top-notch with a great variety of choices for your mood. Will be visiting again soon.
July 25 · Amogh GokhaleLovely little spot! The ambiance was quite well curated, the server was nice and the food was good. The donburi and karaage were amazing, the sushi 4 piece flight had some hits and misses and the dessert (matcha tiramisu) had good presentation but didn’t follow up with flavor. Overall would recommend this place for an intimate catch up with friends or date experience.
September 11 · Caleb Zattofood & service 10/10 would recommend!!!! loved the echos of summer and bird on the wing cocktail, would def have the scallops (so buttery!!!) and eel donburi bowl againwill come back
