What is Worth Choosing
Kuttanadan Indian Restaurant's primary draw is its authentic representation of Kerala cuisine, setting it apart from standard Indian fare in New York. While the menu is extensive, the true value lies in the regional specialties, particularly the rich, slow-cooked meat and fish dishes.
For adventurous diners, the Beef Entrees are a major highlight. Dishes like the classic, deeply flavorful Beef Fry, the slow-cooked Beef Ularthu (dry roast), and the extra spicy Bdf (Beef Dry Fry) are noted by customers for their quality and tender cuts. These preparations are central to the Keralite culinary tradition and represent a unique find for the local food scene. Similarly, the Duck Entrees, including Duck Curry and Duck Roast, offer a rare and exciting protein option not often seen on Indian menus.
Seafood lovers will appreciate the coastal influence with items like Kerala Fish Curry and King Fish Mango Curry, which utilize the region's signature use of coconut milk and souring agents to create a tangy, rich gravy. The Yucca Biriyani is another highly recommended regional item, a flavorful rice dish made with tapioca, which is a staple crop in Kerala.
Beyond the regional stars, the restaurant caters to all tastes with popular Northern and Southern Indian classics. Their Biriyani section is extensive, featuring Goat, Lamb, Beef, and various vegetarian options. For bread, the flaky, layered Malabar Parota is the essential accompaniment to any Keralite curry. Vegetarians have a robust selection, but should look specifically for Kerala Specialties like Avial (mixed vegetable in coconut sauce) and Thoran (vegetable stir-fry with coconut) to experience the true regional flavors.
While some customers have noted that popular pan-Indian dishes like Dal Makhani might have a texture deviation from their preference, the overall consensus highlights the delicious and authentic nature of the Kerala-style food. If you are a New Yorker seeking to satisfy a craving for high-quality, authentic Kerala food—or simply looking for a new flavor profile beyond typical Indian restaurant offerings—Kuttanadan Indian Restaurant is definitively the place to visit in Queens. It's a genuine slice of 'God's Own Country' right here in New York.

Kuttanadan Indian Restaurant Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This was my first time trying this restaurant, and it was kind of a letdown given all the great reviews.I ordered delivery via Uber Eats and got palak paneer, dal makhani, naan, and samosas (received 4 pieces). Both entrees came with a side of rice. The palak paneer was good overall, though I wish it had been a bit spicier—it could’ve used more of a kick. The dal makhani was disappointing. It lacked depth of flavor and had a coarse, almost undercooked texture. I expected something creamy and smooth, but the lentils were gritty, which really took away from the dish. The naan was soft and fresh—no complaints there. The samosas were a good portion, but they tasted greasy and arrived without any chutney?! That was quite disappointing. I’ve never had samosas without some kind of chutney on the side.I’d probably try somewhere else next time.
May 24 · StacyIf you want to eat Kerala style food, this is the place to be. This restaurant used to be known as Santoor before but now it is known as Kutanadan. We had the privilege of eating imported Karimeen and aoli. We also ordered prawn roast, fish biryani, Matta rice, Kerala parota, onion kulcha and more curry. The food was decent, service excellent and price not bad. If you feel nostalgic about Kerala food, this is the place to come.
July 17 · Suchitra KamathI am disgusted by what I found ordering from this place. I placed an uber eats order this evening after a long day. My husband and I had been eating for a while when I noticed in the beef fry dish there was a roach! It made me throw up…The malai kofta was somewhat tasty and the naan was good while hot. But the lamb biriyani was sweet not savory. But please do not eat from this restaurant - the roach was a baby roach which implies there’s a whole infestation that they don’t realize.
September 02 · Hayat HashimSo so tasty!!! The butter chicken is melt in your mouth and the samosa chat is so flavorful. Highly recommend a stop here
June 29 · Nellie SpektorOne of the top Indian restaurants in the area and lunch buffet is also a great deal. Tasty and good quality food. Minus a star as some buffet meat dishes served at room temperature and not heated. Also suggested tip is calculated with tax so you pay tip on tax too.
