La Catracha Introduce
In the diverse culinary landscape of New York City, finding an authentic, no-frills local eatery that consistently delivers on flavor and value is a win. **La Catracha**, located on Staten Island, stands out as just such a gem. Identified as both a **Mexican restaurant** and a **Fast food restaurant**, it offers a straightforward approach to Latin cuisine: simple, tasty, and filling food served in a casual and cozy setting. While the name itself may hint at Honduran influence (Catracha being a term for a Honduran woman, though the primary menu categorization is Mexican), the dishes served are broad in their appeal, providing generous portions of classic comfort food that resonate with the local Hispanic community and adventurous New York diners alike.
La Catracha is a neighborhood spot deeply geared towards providing local residents with hearty, authentic meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While the interior is often described as sparse with a focus on functionality—featuring a small number of tables and a bar area—the warmth of the service and the quality of the food speak volumes louder than the decor. The environment is decidedly **Casual and Cozy**, making it a perfect spot for **Solo dining** or a straightforward meal with **Groups**. New Yorkers who value substance over unnecessary formality will find the atmosphere welcoming, even with the possibility of a slight language barrier, which the staff's genuine hospitality readily overcomes. The restaurant prides itself on **Fast service**, making it an excellent choice for a quick bite without sacrificing authenticity.
The menu is extensive, focusing on traditional *Platillos* (Dishes) which are substantial in size and served with classic accompaniments like rice and beans or salad and plantain. Highlights from the menu include various preparations of steak, such as *Bistek Encebollado* (Onion Steak) and *Bistek a la Mexicana* (Mexican Steak), all affordably priced. Chicken options include the deeply flavorful *Pollo en Mole* and *Pollo en Salsa Verde* (Chicken in Green Sauce). A separate section is dedicated to *Mariscos* (Seafood), featuring unique items like *Mojarra Frita* (Fried Fish), *Pescado Rojo* (Red Snapper), and the luxurious *Sopa de Langosta* (Lobster Soup), alongside Shrimp in Garlic (*Camarones al Mojo de Ajo*). For those seeking something lighter, a selection of *Caldos* (Soup) and *Ensaladas* (Salad) are available, with the **Avocado Salad** being an accessible option.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- 3 tacos ,a small plate of 2 slices of thin steak, with rice and beans, a 1$ Poland spring bottle, and a 1$ small 12 oz can of coke. The total charge was 37$, 3 tacos were 12$, and they charged the rice beans and "steak" with water and soda at 27$. 100% not worth purchasing anything other than the tacos. The rice and beans were a rip off. And drinks were a rip off aswell.Come for tacos, don't stay for the indoor dining or service. April 18 · J A
- I had passed by La Tuna Restaurant (Even though it has the La Catracha sign in the window, the menus say La Tuna) several times when I parked to grab a slice from Brother’s Pizza across the street, and the restaurant always seemed to be filled with people, some of them dancing from time to time. This time as I passed the restaurant, i stopped to look at the menu in the front window, and one of the folks in the restaurant came outside to see if I would like a menu and to come in. I am glad that I took an opportunity to try the place.I had the Enchiladas Rojas for twelve dollars and my friend had a burrito for eight. The food is simple, tasty and filling. The portions are generous. As decor goes, the restaurant is pretty sparse. There are only about eight tables in the restaurant, and a small bar area that seats four folks. The restaurant is very much geared to be a local restaurant serving a Hispanic crowd, but I never felt unwelcome. While there is a bit of a language barrier with some of the staff if you don’t speak Spanish, the warmth of service more than makes up for it. I recommend this place for a quick and tasty sit down meal. August 26 · Jeffrey Li

- This place has amazing food. They do the little things right, that most places overlook. It's because they take pride in their work.An unexpected piece of fatty chicharon in my pork taco is what won me over. Only someone who cares about the experience they deliver, would do something like that. Everything I've tried since then has not let me down, or let up. February 13 · Mozz Manzoor
