Martiny’s Introduce
In a city celebrated for its world-class cocktail scene, Martiny’s has quickly established itself as a true destination for those who appreciate the art and science of mixology. Located in a beautifully renovated 1800s carriage house in the Gramercy neighborhood, this cocktail bar is a unique and intimate space that offers an experience unlike any other. It is the brainchild of acclaimed bartender Takuma Watanabe, a Tokyo native who spent years as the head bartender at the iconic Angel's Share, one of New York City's pioneering cocktail dens. With its refined nod to modern Japanese bar culture, Martiny's has earned a reputation for "flawlessly" executed classic cocktails and a curated list that adds a "fresh twist" to familiar flavors.
Martiny's is more than a place for drinks; it is a meticulously crafted experience where every detail is intentional and purposeful. From the hospitality to the elegant design elements and elevated bar bites, the entire concept is a testament to the pursuit of "shokunin," a Japanese term for a master artisan. The ambiance is described by patrons as "intimate and cozy," making it the perfect setting for a special night out. While you may come for the drinks, many find themselves falling for the food as well, as the "umami-rich bites" are designed to perfectly complement the cocktails. It’s a place where talent and tradition meet, creating a sophisticated yet welcoming environment that has cocktail lovers singing its praises.
Martiny’s is conveniently located at 121 E 17th St, New York, NY 10003, USA. This address places it just off Union Square, in the serene and picturesque Gramercy neighborhood. Its location in a historic building adds to its charm and makes it a destination in itself. Situated between Union Square East and Irving Place, it’s easily accessible from multiple parts of the city.
The bar's proximity to the major Union Square subway hub (serving the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, and W lines) makes it incredibly easy to reach via public transportation. This accessibility is a key factor in its popularity, as it's a convenient meeting point for groups. While specific accessibility details are not fully provided, the venue operates in a public-facing space, and its commitment to hospitality suggests a welcoming environment for all patrons. Given its status as a high-end bar that often has a wait, planning your visit and making a reservation is highly recommended.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Martiny nails the balance between timeless and inventive. Their classic cocktails are executed flawlessly that remind you why these drinks became classics in the first place. The curated cocktail list adds a fresh twist, with creative flavors that still feel elegant and restrained. The space is intimate and cozy, making it perfect for a pre-dinner drink or a slow, sophisticated nightcap. A gem for cocktail lovers who appreciate both tradition and thoughtful experimentation. It’s definitely a place where you came for their drinks but fall for their food. The bar offers a refined nod to modern Japanese bar culture, offering bold, umami-rich bites that pair perfectly with the cocktails.
August 05 · Emma LamWe waited outside for 15 minutes on a Sunday evening to get a bar seat by the front. There were four other parties waiting with us without reservation around that time. The drinks were pretty strong and enjoyable. The snacks were pretty good and immaculate too. I enjoyed the ambiance of the bar. The service gave me awkward vibes but overall they were talented bartenders. I may go again to try different drinks.
September 03 · PreethiSometimes all you want is an old-fashioned, classy bar. You know, where the bartender wears a white shirt and bow tie, you get polite service and they have perfect classic cocktails. The problem is that they're often snobby and uninviting. Not so with Martiny's, which feels more like being invited to a rich Asian friend's cosy living room where you happen to get great cocktails. But with warm towels and spectacular Martinis. After having our secret test drink perfectly served, we choose a Tea Ceremony from the signature menu. It's as much a visual feast as a flavour sensation with bourbon, cocoa and matcha. We definitely feel Takuma Watanabe's roots in our favourite speakeasy Angel's Share. There's a reason it's the second highest rated bar in NYC. Next time we want to impress someone, we'll be back! 🍸😍
April 18 · Cocktailbar GuidenThis place was good not great. Tried this melon cream soda and the in the mood rum drink. The rum drink was just sting I couldn’t finish it, the melon cream soda was better but I wish it was sweeter. Sorry I’m still a noob in the drinking world. I realized it was a top 50 bar when we walked in. Service was excellent, bartenders were nice I just can’t do the strong drinks lol. They took us (2) as a walk in at around 10 on a Friday night so try to walk in. Felt very sophisticated. Great place for a nightcap.
April 30 · Kyana IfillIt was a great experience for me. Reservations are strictly recommended, however, if you are lucky and try walk-in, you might get a spot in the bar after 10/15 minutes waiting. They have a great service, staff is very friendly and welcoming. Very cozy spot. A good variety of martinis, and all the drinks are incredibly good. They have a food menu, but not like a dinner menu. Small portions/plates but delicious.Great place for drinks!
