Choosing a restaurant like Mofongos in a city with countless dining options can come down to a few key factors. The primary reason to choose Mofongos is for its focused and authentic take on Caribbean cuisine, particularly its namesake dish. For those seeking a specific, traditional meal like mofongo, this restaurant is a dedicated option. The various fillings, from shrimp to pork shoulder and chicken stew, offer a chance to explore a classic dish with a personal twist. Furthermore, the presence of other staple menu items like pernil and arroz con gandules makes it a destination for a truly authentic taste of Latin America. The menu offers a sense of home for those from the Caribbean and a genuine culinary adventure for those who are new to the cuisine.
However, it is also important for New Yorkers to be aware of the experiences of other patrons, especially with off-site orders. Some online reviews indicate inconsistencies with delivery orders, such as incorrect food items, missing drinks, and issues with food quality, including undercooked rice and dry, salty, or burnt meat. These are critical aspects to consider, particularly for those relying on a seamless delivery service. For people accustomed to the high standards of New York's dining scene, these issues can be a source of frustration. The experiences shared by customers who received a "totally different food" or found their pernil to be "burned, dry, and salty" suggest that while the concept is appealing, the execution may sometimes be inconsistent, particularly for delivery orders. Therefore, while the menu is inviting and the promise of authentic cuisine is a strong pull, it may be advisable for potential diners to consider a dine-in experience if they are able, where they can more easily communicate with the staff and ensure their order is correct and prepared to their satisfaction. This provides an opportunity to enjoy the food as it is intended to be served and address any concerns in real time.

April 28 · Karla De JesusI ordered two orders of pernil via uber eats. One with arroz con gandules and one with white rice and beans. As a Hispanic I can say with 100% confidence that this place should NOT call itself a Dominican or Puerto Rican restaurant! The rice was extremely undercooked, the pernil was burned, dry and salty and overall just nasty. Even if given to me for free I will not be eating here again!
