What is Worth Choosing
When considering a visit to the NYU Jasper H. Kane Dining Hall, whether you are an NYU affiliate or a local patron, the decision on what to choose often comes down to two major factors: dietary specification and convenience.
First, the best value and most specialized options are often found at the dedicated stations. If you are looking for a certified Halal or Kosher meal, the Hall is a reliable, convenient option in the immediate vicinity. These specialized selections are maintained to meet specific standards and are a critical service offered to the community. Similarly, for those focusing on health, the Hall’s commitment to providing Healthy options and dedicated salad or poke bowl stations (as referenced by diners) can often yield the freshest and best-prepared meals.
Second, for local professionals or community members who may not have an NYU Meal Plan, the ability to pay using Credit cards, Debit cards, or NFC mobile payments makes it a frictionless alternative to nearby street vendors or other quick-service restaurants. This convenience, combined with the all-inclusive entry price for non-meal-swipe users (or the ability to use dining dollars/campus cash for retail items), makes it a predictable choice for a filling lunch.
In the context of the Downtown Brooklyn landscape, what is truly worth choosing at Jasper H. Kane is its structural dependability. It is a large, institution-backed facility that consistently offers a broad menu and essential dietary accommodations (Halal, Kosher, healthy options) across a long service day (breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dessert). For quick, substantial, and dietary-compliant comfort food in the MetroTech area, the Jasper H. Kane Dining Hall provides a necessary, well-resourced option.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The food is overpriced and some of the staff was really rude. The man in the burger bar shook his head everytime he saw me only because once in April/ May 2022, I didn’t know “slider” was just another word for “burger”. The atmosphere is really good, as it was the only canteen at Tandon.
September 12 · Shu-Hao RuanI’m a current nyu tandon student. If you are dorming in a Brooklyn campus you a r required to have an nyu meal plan, even though half the dorms already have kitchens. Regardless, I refuse to eat at the Brooklyn dining hall (aside from the poke bowls/sushi). Simply put, it sucks. The workers are rude, especially the middle aged dude that runs the pizza station he always gives so much attitude. The Manhattan dining halls have buffet style eating, however at this dining halls salad bar, they charge you extra if you go over a pound of the salad bar, which after the ridiculous cost of nyu tuition and the meal plan, that is simply put - a joke. The portions are so tiny. For an entire meal swipe you’ll get some rice, veggies, and two small chicken wings-not brests-wings. Everything about this dining hall sucks, and for tuition that costs nearly 100k for some students, I’d be expecting gourmet dining, not this garbage food with rude and inconsiderate workers. (Side note I’ve also worked in food service 4 years, it’s not that hard to put on a fake smile throughout your shift)
September 12 · Jack SkoraGood food paired with good people makes this place special. I intend to visit here frequently. The food arrives looking beautiful and tasting fresh. I like the atmosphere, the people who work here, and the simple look. I'd dine here again and recommend to my friends.
July 02 · Judith Vasquezusually very good! i like this dining hall better than most of the manhattan ones because the quality is usually good and it’s much quieter and more peaceful there. but yesterday they gave me a meat burger when i ordered a veggie burger (i have minor meat allergy), i took a couple bites before i realized and it made me feel really sick. (my friend ate more of the burger before i took a photo)
May 12 · whitney solThe dining hall itself has such a home feel because of the amazing staff. They are all friendly and energetic especially Dave and Chef Anthony. They always care to ask how you have been and how classes are going it gives a great break to the stress from college.
