What is Worth Choosing
Osteria Brooklyn is a worthwhile choice for New Yorkers seeking quality, convenient Italian food in a central and easily accessible location. The restaurant's appeal is firmly rooted in its expansive and accessible Italian menu. The variety of choices means there truly is something for everyone, whether you’re seeking classic comfort food or a lighter, quick-service meal.
The Pressed Panini options are particularly notable for a quick and satisfying lunch. The Porchetta Panini, featuring crunchy pork belly and Pecorino Aioli, offers a rich, textural experience that goes beyond a standard sandwich. Similarly, the "Handyman" Panini, a powerhouse of Prosciutto, Mortadella, Salami, and spicy Coppa, is designed to be a hearty and flavor-packed choice, making it a strong contender for the best value and most robust lunch item on the menu. For those leaning towards vegetarian options, the Vegetariano Panini, packed with fresh vegetables and truffle mushroom, provides a gourmet, satisfying alternative.
For pasta lovers, the selection is impressive. The Bucatini Cacio e Pepe is a benchmark for any Italian spot and is a testament to simple, traditional Roman cooking. The Spaghetti Alla Carbonara is also a classic, and customer feedback suggesting it is made with cheese and not cream indicates an attempt at a more authentic preparation, which is a significant plus for discerning Italian food enthusiasts. If you are looking for a house specialty, the Fettuccine Osteria, described as a 'house specialty red wine infuse pasta' with a 'white truffle sauce,' promises a luxurious and unique flavor profile that makes for a perfect treat.
Furthermore, the ability to grab a Margherita or Prosciutto and Arugula La Pala (pizza) while enjoying the lively, community atmosphere of the DeKalb Market Hall makes Osteria Brooklyn a highly functional and enjoyable stop. It caters well to the fast-paced life of a New Yorker, offering authentic flavors without requiring a formal, time-consuming sit-down dining commitment. It’s an excellent choice for satisfying that midday craving for a genuinely Italian dish.
However, prospective diners should be aware of noted customer concerns regarding sanitation and transparency in billing, which appear in public reviews. While the food itself is often well-received, as seen in positive feedback for dishes like the Penne Vodka and Crab Ravioli, the management of the customer experience has received criticism. Therefore, while the cuisine offers genuine highlights, customers are advised to carefully review their bills, particularly during promotional periods like advertised "Happy Hour" deals, to ensure accuracy and to note that the atmosphere of a food hall is highly communal and casual.

Osteria Brooklyn Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Dishonest staff at this Osteria Brooklyn location -I was at the DeKalb Food Market at around 4:30pm. The big "Happy Hour 1/2 price Drinks" sign at Osteria Brooklyn caught my eyes. I was looking for some pasta and a drink, this restaurant seemed to be a good choice. I sat down and asked the waiter what drinks were 1/2 priced. I specifically asked if wine was part of that and I was told YES. So I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio and a pasta. The food was not bad at all. However, when I asked for the bill, I noticed that I was charged full price for the wine. I thought it was just an honest mistake and asked the waiter about it. He just brushed me off and said that was the happy hour price. So I looked further, not only did he not put in the correct happy hour price, he actually punched in a more expensive glass of wine instead of what I actually ordered. At the end, I called him out with the menu opened. At that point, he already swiped my credit card. All he did was giving me this "you got me" look. Not a word of apology. The waiter in the picture is the one you should watch out for. He scams unsuspected customers who don't pay attention to their bills. What he did just turned a potentially return customer into someone who will never set foot in an Osteria Brooklyn again. He turned a potentially good review (as the food and wine were not bad) into a 1-star review, all for trying to game a few extra dollars.
May 08 · J WDO NOT EAT HERE! I ordered the House Specialty excited to eat here for the first time and when I was about to eat it I found a DEAD ROACH in my food and immediately went back to get a refund. As I was getting my refund I saw another roach crawling on the cheese used in the pasta. This place clearly has a sanitation problem and should be shut down immediately. The food was also really overpriced but I am beyond disgusted.
August 25 · Aaliyah AdamsOver priced for very little food. $20 for noodles and sauce. Better off ordering elsewhere like Verde on Smith.
June 24 · sabrina modellasI’ve been here 5 or 6 times and the pasta seems like it’s all fresh made and everything I’ve had is delicious.
