Pastrami Queen Introduce
For many, the quintessential New York food experience is a towering pastrami sandwich, piled high with tender, flavorful meat on soft rye bread. On the Upper West Side, one name has become synonymous with this classic deli fare: Pastrami Queen. Located on West 72nd Street, this sandwich shop embodies the timeless tradition of a New York City deli, offering a menu filled with comforting, classic dishes that have stood the test of time. While the iconic pastrami sandwich is the star attraction, the restaurant's extensive offerings of traditional deli favorites make it a must-visit for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic taste of the city's culinary heritage.
The menu at Pastrami Queen is a comprehensive guide to deli delights. Naturally, the Pastrami Sandwich is the most famous item, made with meat that is known for being tender and juicy. While some reviews mention that the ratio of meat to bread could be more generous, the quality of the meat and the softness of the rye bread are consistently praised. The menu extends far beyond pastrami, however, with other classic sandwich options like Corned Beef, Brisket, and Roast Beef. For the more adventurous eater, there’s also Tongue and a variety of turkey options. The menu even features "Royal" and "Triple Decker" sandwiches, allowing you to combine up to three different meats for a truly epic meal.
But a visit to Pastrami Queen is about more than just sandwiches. The menu is packed with other deli staples that are worth exploring. The Soups section is a comforting highlight, with classic choices like Matzoh Ball Soup, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Mushroom Barley. The House Made Knishes, Latkes and Specialty Items are also a major draw. The knishes, with their homemade buttery crust, are a local favorite, coming in a variety of fillings including potato, spinach, and meat. The large Potato Pancakes (Latkes) and a range of deli sides like Coleslaw, Potato Salad, and Chopped Liver complete the traditional deli experience. For those with a craving for something different, the menu also features a Pastrami Queen Burger, Fried Chicken, and even a Pastrami Egg Roll, showcasing a creative twist on classic flavors.
The drink selection is a nod to nostalgia, with classic bottled sodas like Black Cherry, Cel-Ray, and Cream Soda, perfectly complementing the rich, savory food. The restaurant also has a kids' menu, with junior sandwiches and other kid-friendly items, making it a great spot for a family lunch.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It was my first time here and the food was pretty decent. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and garlic fried. Now the garlic fries are $0.75 more than the regular fries. It was pretty good though. The fries self was cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. The garlic wasn’t too strong. It was just a mild fragrant of an existence. Personally I’d just order the regular fries next time.I had such high expectations for the pastrami on rye. It was good, but it didn’t amaze me. The pastrami was cooked pretty well. It was soft, tender and juicy. The rye was very soft. However, the ratio was a bit off. My last few bites only had like a small slice between the rye bread. I also think they can be a bit more generous with the pastrami.Overall, it was good, but not great. I’ll probably come back to try their other items. They do have delicious looking knish and latkes.
April 29 · Bradley CNot gonna lie, I was supremely disappointed by their pastrami sandwich, the one they claim to be most famous for, especially considering how expensive it is. Quality pickle, but the meat was relatively dry, lacking some flavor and worst of all crumbly! It is not the worst sandwich, but if you are looking for high quality NYC pastrami meat, this ain’t it.
August 15 · Alec RamirezAs a tourist, this place has a vibe of a restaurant long in decline, perhaps now living off the name of a joint that was famous in an earlier era. I wonder too if they are stuck in a downward spiral where they are putting up prices because of the lack of customers, in turn reducing the customer base and so on. When we went in there, there was only one other customer at lunchtime on Tuesday. There was the first red flag…We ordered a pastrami sandwich and burger. To charge $27 for a“World famous hot pastrami sandwich” is laughable but made even more so after it is presented to you. I kid you not, the whole plate came out with pastrami, two slices of bread and two pickles. Not even a bit of butter or sauce on the bread. To even use the term ‘world famous’ in that context would usually be considered a joke. In its defence, the meat was nice but unless I’m getting a giant tray of it for that money, there is no value for money here.My partner’s burger deluxe which was below average and well over priced at $22. Chips tasted bland with the exception of a burnt oil taste.Staff were okay. They seemed happy to have personal conversations in Spanish whilst we were dining.Decor was old but at least clean and was fine.I can’t see this place hanging on for too much longer. Plenty of other deli stores around offering a lot more for much, much less.
May 27 · Alexander MattiaccioAwful gristly pastrami that's like shoe leather. I cannot fathom how anyone finds this place good. Side of coleslaw was bland. One extra star because the matzo ball soup was ok and they had rugulach that was also not bad.
May 17 · Evan TDelicious sandwich. Friendly service. They let us sample. Yes it’s expensive but not dry. Happy we came
