Pupuseria Carmelina Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been coming to this pupusería for years and let me tell you, the quality of the pupusas is always on point. Their specialty, of course, are pupusas, which makes sense given the name Carmelina’s Pupusería.El ambiente? I won’t lie—it’s hit or miss depending on the day. It’s not always the most family-friendly spot, but honestly, if you don’t feel comfortable, just grab your food to-go. Like I said, if you’re all about the food and you’re just craving some delicious pupusas this is the place.Just the other day, my boyfriend and I stopped by. He wasn’t feeling great, so we ordered the sopa de gallina, and it was a solid 9 out of 10. It wasn’t just soup; traía gallina asada, arroz, ensalada y 2 tortillas. When it comes to the pupusas, the price is fair as well. The one comment I hear is they are so good wish they were bigger. To me they are great.I’ve read some of the reviews for this place, and I get where people are coming from, but this is a hole-in-the-wall, and if you know anything about those, you know they’re where you find the best food. This is authentic Salvadoran food, so if you’re craving that, this is your spot. One thing to keep in mind: they have a liquor license, so you’ll see some folks enjoying their drinks. But again, if the vibe isn’t for you, just take your food to go. If you don’t mind and are there for a good meal, I recommend the pupusas revueltas with a cola champán. Oh, and the tamarind juice is really good too!
October 07 · W ETERRIBLE TERRIBLE. The pupusas were given to us filled with soda, literally in a pool of soda. We called and they blamed us. Rude. No apologizes. Never going back.
July 09 · Cindy CuevasOverall, a solid experience. While the food quality fluctuates slightly, it reliably stays between a 4/5 and 5/5. The atmosphere and service are decent, but the real highlight here is the pupusas. I highly recommend the frijol con queso (beans and cheese) pupusas.
March 07 · Mag CalOk so the two star rating stems from mostly the environment of the place. If you are looking for a cheap night out with the family this is not the place to go. The restaurant has a bar and the patrons were very loud, i am not complaining as I could have walked out but I decided to eat and concentrate on the food.Food was ok the beans were a little salty. I actually ordered a typical platter but me not knowing Salvadorian food, got a platter which I did not like. It consisted of beans, eggs with onions, ground beef and a side of rice. My family members, without me asking, gave me a piece of steak each as they saw me i could only eat the beans and rice. Overall they themselves weren’t too pleased with the food as I mentioned we all tasted the beans to be too salty. The steak was a hit and miss, I personally liked it while the others in my party did not. I would recommend this place as a spot to come on a Friday night with your heavy drinking buddies. It’s definitely not too family friendly, well at least Saturday night it wasn’t.
January 09 · Geo M.Wow. The experience was awful, the food was no better and the service was non-existent. We waiting about an hour for our food. Nothing was cooked well. The cortido for the pupusas tasted rancid and the red sauce was actually vomit worthy. I asked the waitress for a new hot sauce bottle at the table was expired twice and it still never came. The waitresses looked lazy and unhappy except when behind the crowded bar. Worst experience ever, could not wait to get out of there. The pupusas were TINY and meatless when specifically asked for revueltas.
