For first-time visitors or seasoned patrons, the menu at Restaurante Ecuatoriano Genesis is packed with authentic dishes worth exploring. Given the sheer variety, here is a breakdown of the most celebrated and culturally significant Ecuadorian plates offered:
Essential Ecuadorian Soups and Stews:
The ENCEBOLLADO DE PESCADO ($20.00) is an absolute must-try. As Ecuador’s unofficial national dish, this hearty tuna fish soup—prepared with yuca, pickled red onion, and cilantro—is both famously flavorful and, for some, a renowned hangover cure. Its seafood variation, the ENCEBOLLADO MIXTO ($30.00), is available for those who want a blend of tuna and shrimp. Another deeply traditional choice is the GUATITA ($20.00), a rich tripe stew in a savory peanut sauce, often considered one of the definitive tastes of Ecuadorian coastal cuisine. Note that the warming CALDO DE BOLA ($20.00), a delicious beef broth with green plantain dumplings, is a special only offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, making it a popular weekend treat.
Seafood Delights:
The restaurant offers an impressive array of CEVICHES, a staple in Ecuadorian coastal regions, served with the traditional accompaniments of rice or toasted corn kernels (maíz tostado). Popular options include the classic CEVICHE DE CAMARON ($25.00) (Shrimp), CEVICHE DE PESCADO ($25.00) (Fish), and the luxurious CEVICHE DE CONCHA ($30.00) (Black Clam). For those who want to try everything, the **CEVICHE TRIPLE ($35.00)** provides a complete seafood cocktail experience. The ARROZ MARINERO ($30.00) (Seafood Rice) is another excellent choice, blending mixed seafood with seasoned rice.
Meat and Specialty Plates:
Dive into the heart of the Ecuadorian culinary tradition with main dishes like SECO DE CHIVO ($20.00), a savory goat stew, and its poultry counterpart, SECO DE GALLINA ($20.00) (Chicken Stew). The menu also features FRITADA ($25.00), a dish of braised and fried pork pieces, typically served with Llapingacho (potato patties) and mote (hominy), a true highland classic. For a dish that is the "Ecuadorian flag" on a plate, order the BANDERA ($25.00), which traditionally combines different stews and sides to represent the country’s diverse flavors. The YAPINGACHO ($30.00), a potato patty stuffed with cheese and often served as a side, is elevated here as a main course, and should not be missed. The generous CHURRASCO ($30.00) (grilled steak platter) and HORNADO CON MOTE ($30.00) (roasted pork) are also excellent, filling choices.
Small Plates and Drinks:
Don't overlook the ANTOJITOS (Appetizers), which are perfect for a quick snack or to start your meal. Try the HUMITAS ($5.00), a savory steamed corn cake similar to a tamale, or the BOLONES DE QUESO ($10.00), which are flavorful, mashed green plantain balls filled with cheese. To wash it all down, the fresh and vibrant JUGOS NATURALES, such as NARANJILLA ($6.00) or MARACUYA/ PARCHA / CHINOLA ($5.00), offer an authentic, refreshing complement to the rich food.
In summary, for any resident of or visitor to New York City seeking authentic, flavorful, and generously portioned Ecuadorian comfort food in a welcoming, unpretentious setting, Restaurante Ecuatoriano Genesis in Inwood is a top-tier choice. Its menu is a testament to the depth and variety of Ecuadorian gastronomy, making it a valuable addition to the NYC dining landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Parking is really difficult around this area. We found parking that was available till 4pm. After that time, it becomes a No Standing zone. The restaurant itself is decent and clean. I wouldn't consider it a romantic spot. I tried the ceviche from fish. I needed to add more lemon to bring it up to par. It was served with rice. I ordered an empanada, which was a bit greasy. The cheese inside was more liquid than melted cheese.
August 07 · Ivan YFood is absolutely delicious and they give big portions. Our waitress was also very nice! Will definitely be coming back.
May 26 · Angelica BSo so disappointed about my experience, I traveled from PA to NY for a wedding I wanted to have a taste of Ecuadorian food, sadly my experience wasn’t great, the food was just ok, the service was terrible and the atmosphere dirty and careless. Was hoping more for the high prices. Hope they can improve and try to give more of an Ecuadorian experience and put more love in their work.
July 13 · Lizeth MezaBest Ecuadorian restaurant in the city in my opinion (and by city I mean all 5 boroughs.) Nice family owned restaurant. You will see the wonder cleaning tables and getting things for his customers. The portions are huge. Great menu selection. They do run out of certain dishes fast so be mindful of that. Their prices recently went up but I think it’s still worth it. Super happy they made it through Covid times.
August 30 · Zoilyna PastorGood food. Will definitely be going back. Finding parking is the only issue. But u can park at a muni meter. I think it was 4 dollars for 2 hours. Not bad at all
