Rizzo Bakery & Pizzeria Introduce
When New Jersey locals talk about authentic, no-frills Italian food, especially in the Jersey City Heights neighborhood, one name consistently rises to the top: Rizzo Bakery & Pizzeria. This family-owned establishment has been a beloved fixture on Central Avenue since 1983, carrying on generations of traditional Italian recipes that span far beyond just pizza.
More than just a quick stop for a slice, Rizzo Bakery & Pizzeria is an institution. It’s a place where you can grab a colossal, crispy slice of pizza and a fresh loaf of Italian bread for dinner, all while being surrounded by the sights and smells of a true, old-world Italian bakery. It offers a warm, welcoming environment that many customers describe as feeling like family, complete with the occasional snippets of Sicilian conversations that transport you straight to Italy.
The atmosphere is refreshingly unpretentious, focusing entirely on quality, homemade food at affordable prices. It perfectly embodies the spirit of a classic neighborhood 'mom and pop' shop, making it a reliable and comforting choice for residents across Jersey City and the wider New Jersey area. If you’re looking for a taste of traditional Italian heritage without the high-end fanfare, Rizzo Bakery & Pizzeria is an essential Jersey City stop.
The dual nature of the business—a vibrant bakery up front and a phenomenal pizzeria in the back—ensures there is something for every craving, from savory dinner options to delightful Italian desserts.
Rizzo Bakery & Pizzeria has been run by the Rizzo family for over 40 years, with Mike Rizzo, the owner, having dedicated decades to perfecting the craft of baking and cooking. Furthermore, the 16" Large Pizza Pie at $15.00 is consistently listed as a best seller, representing fantastic value for a whole pie.
However, what truly sets Rizzo’s apart as a unique and invaluable local resource is the bakery element. The selection of homemade Italian pastries and cookies—including cannolis and biscottis—is plentiful and perfect for any celebration or a simple sweet craving. Grabbing a selection of cookies from the bakery counter is a must. If you need a full dinner, the hot Italian sandwiches, particularly the best-selling Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich, or a classic pasta dish like the homemade Lasagna, will provide that comforting, traditional flavor you can only find at a true Italian 'mom and pop' establishment. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I don't eat pizza or finish the crust from anywhere else. Family owned for years, their slices are huge and cooked perfectly. They also have a good selection to choose from the menu all the pastas that I've tried have been great. Bakery when you walk in with a big variety of Italian cookies (which are plentiful with different kinds) and different items Italian specialties to purchase. Just had a slice of the olive focaccia today. There are a few tables to eat. Right across from Pershing field and 2 blocks from the Stop and Shop. Grab a platter of bruschetta or a few pies for any get togethers.
July 19 · HANNAH FRENCHVery old school business definitely a mom and pop which is nice. Pizza was very good but not a place if you're going on a date It's more of a pickup or grabbing a quick slice kind of place Pizza Hut good quality huge slice and crispy
May 02 · Gilbert MoralesThe cheese pizza was surprisingly tasty. But the "cheesesteak"... I have no idea what that was supposed to be. It was basically a sad mountain of fried onions with a few scraps of mystery meat hiding underneath. Whatever that was, it wasn’t a cheesesteak in this universe or any other. Super disappointed I paid for it.Pro tip: skip the cheesesteak, stick with the cheese pies.
August 02 · Ahmad RahimAwesome neighborhood family run spot making tasty crispy giant pizzas. To be honest, it should be called Jersey city’s Joe’s pizza. They also sell by the slice which is a getting more uncommon by the day, along with some very interesting Italy imported pastas and baked goods.Heard their sandwiches aren’t too bad either but haven’t been able to get past the pizza everytime I go there. The granny at the helm is a sweet old lady, so your service is never bad.
August 16 · ssvWe had such a lovely experience at Rizzo's Bakery and Pizzeria. We were visiting NY/Jersey City and stayed near this place. We ate the best lasagna there. Breakfast with croissants and coffee were amazing. My husband is from Italy and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Anna, who is also Italian. He felt right at home! Costumer service was amazing. Thank you for the great food and great service. If you are looking for authentic Italian products and taste, this is the place.
