Sabi Sushi at The Plaza Food HallA medium sized counter at the Plaza Hotel that sells japanese food: 🍣sushi🐟, teriyaki🍱, and Udon. Today i decided to try it out for the first time. I had the udon🍜 with pork🐷 dumplings. Overall very good. The broth is a miso based broth. As usual with Japanese food, only a minimal amount of vegetables🍠🌽🍆. There was a tiny bit of seaweed in the soup. Overall though the soup was excellent! 💙 - O V H

Sabi Sushi Introduce

In the non-stop whirlwind of New York City, especially in a major transportation hub like the Penn District, finding a quick, satisfying, and convenient meal is a daily necessity for thousands of people. Sabi Sushi, a counter-style Japanese eatery, is designed to meet that very need. Located within a food hall, this spot offers a streamlined menu of classic Japanese fare for those on the go. While it may not be a traditional, sit-down sushi restaurant with an extensive omakase menu, it serves a crucial purpose for commuters, tourists, and locals alike: providing a fast and efficient way to grab a tasty meal. The concept is simple and effective, focusing on the essentials of Japanese cuisine to ensure a quick turnaround. From freshly prepared sushi rolls to warm, comforting bowls of udon, Sabi Sushi provides a reliable option for a quick bite in a very high-traffic area. The establishment aims to be a practical solution for a hunger pang, offering a selection of popular items that are easy to eat while on the move or at one of the food hall's counters. It’s a medium-sized operation that caters to the fast-paced nature of its surroundings, prioritizing speed and convenience for its customers.

Sabi Sushi benefits from an exceptionally convenient location that is almost impossible to miss for anyone passing through one of New York City's major transit points. It is situated at 2 Pennsylvania Plaza, New York, NY 10121. This address places it directly within a food hall near Penn Station, a major hub that connects countless subway lines, buses, and commuter rail services like the LIRR and NJ Transit. The location is perfect for those who are catching a train, coming from work in the surrounding office buildings, or simply exploring the area around Madison Square Garden. Being inside a food hall means it's a part of a larger, bustling environment with plenty of foot traffic. While the specific food hall is a bit different from the Plaza Food Hall, the review's mention of The Plaza Hotel is likely a reference to a food hall located within a similar large, public space, which is a common setup for such eateries. This prime, central location makes Sabi Sushi a go-to spot for a quick, efficient, and accessible meal. The convenience is a major part of its value proposition, as it caters to customers who need to be in and out quickly without sacrificing a satisfying meal.

The services at Sabi Sushi are tailored for a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The main focus is on providing a quick and efficient dining experience, whether you're taking your food to go or eating at a counter nearby. Here is a breakdown of the services offered:

  • Takeout/Counter Service: This is the primary service model. Customers can order from the counter and take their food with them. The menu is designed for speed, featuring pre-made sushi sets and other items that can be quickly prepared.
  • Dine-in (Food Hall Seating): While there is no dedicated seating for Sabi Sushi itself, customers can utilize the common seating areas within the food hall. This allows for a quick, casual dining experience without the need for traditional table service.
  • Menu Variety: The menu includes a solid selection of Japanese staples, including sushi, teriyaki, and udon. The udon is served with a savory, miso-based broth and, as one review notes, includes pork dumplings, making for a hearty meal. There is also a variety of sushi rolls and sets available to grab and go, appealing to both sushi lovers and those who prefer a hot meal.

While the business does not offer an extensive list of traditional restaurant services like reservations or full-scale delivery, its core function is to provide a reliable and quick source of Japanese comfort food for the busy people of New York City.

Sabi Sushi offers a few key highlights that make it a notable option for those looking for a quick and casual meal. The most significant highlight is its focus on being a practical and efficient food option. In a high-traffic area like the Penn District, speed is a huge advantage, and Sabi Sushi's counter service model is built for exactly that. Customers can get their food in a short amount of time, making it an excellent choice for a hurried lunch break or a quick meal before a train or event. Another highlight is the variety of its offerings. While it's a "sushi restaurant," it also provides other classic Japanese comfort foods like teriyaki and udon. This variety caters to different cravings and preferences, making it a versatile choice. The udon, in particular, has received positive remarks for its excellent miso-based broth. The food is noted to be "good," offering a satisfying quality for a fast-casual eatery. The prices, while considered by one review to be a bit high for the portion size, are still within a reasonable range for a convenient location in Midtown Manhattan. The establishment’s overall function as a quick, no-frills solution for a Japanese food craving is its most important feature. It is designed to be a grab-and-go spot that provides a tasty and reliable meal to a busy clientele.

For those who wish to find this convenient spot, here is the essential contact information:

In a city with a seemingly endless number of sushi restaurants, what makes Sabi Sushi worth choosing? The primary reason is its unparalleled convenience and strategic location. For a commuter passing through Penn Station or a local worker on a tight schedule, Sabi Sushi provides a reliable and quick option for a Japanese meal. Its menu, while not extensive, includes all the staples you might crave, from a variety of sushi sets to a warm, comforting bowl of udon. The udon is particularly noted for being very good, a strong draw for anyone looking for a hearty soup. The counter service model is highly efficient, minimizing wait times and making it a perfect spot for a grab-and-go meal. While there has been some concerning feedback regarding kitchen hygiene in a past review, it is important for customers to stay aware of their surroundings and use their discretion, as is the case with any food establishment. However, for a quick, convenient, and satisfying meal in a bustling area, Sabi Sushi is a reliable and practical choice that caters to the specific needs of a fast-paced New York lifestyle.
