What is Worth Choosing at Shashlik House
Shashlik House stands out in the competitive New York dining landscape by offering an unparalleled combination of authentic Central Asian flavor, extensive amenities, and excellent value. The menu is a testament to the richness of Uzbek cuisine, presenting dishes that are both comforting and complex. The variety of shish kebabs is the obvious star, with options ranging from Baby Lamb Chops and Lamb Ribs to Grilled Shrimp and a Mixed Kebabs platter. Patrons particularly rave about the "out of this world" Lyulya Kebab, a minced meat skewer expertly seasoned and grilled, demonstrating the kitchen's skill with charcoal fire.
Beyond the grill, the house-made specialties are essential. The Manti (steamed dumplings) are famous for being incredibly moist and juicy. Soups, a cornerstone of Uzbek culture, like the flavorful Shurpa (hearty lamb and vegetable soup) and the rice and meat-based Mastava, offer a perfect start or a warming meal on their own. Do not overlook the Tandoor Bread, baked in a traditional clay oven, and the Samsa pastry, which are crucial components of any authentic Central Asian meal. The availability of traditional homemade drinks, such as Airan (a savory yogurt drink) and Homemade Kompot, further enhances the cultural journey.
Ultimately, choosing Shashlik House is choosing a complete cultural experience. The ability to host large groups in a private VIP room, complete with a cozy fireplace and sometimes live music, makes it a favorite spot for New Yorkers celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or simply enjoying a large family dinner. The commitment to a welcoming atmosphere, as highlighted by customer appreciation for staff who maintain professionalism even under pressure, speaks volumes about the quality of the service. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The best lyulya kebab ever!Otherwise nothing special, - clean place, obviously a big challenge to find parking on Ave U; friendly professional service, only one bathroom; but seriously, my lyulya kebab was out of this world!
September 19 · Dmitry KardonskyI would like to recognize Ernest, one of the servers at your restaurant. During my visit, I observed him working under pressure and handling disrespectful behavior from certain guests with remarkable composure and professionalism. Despite the difficult situation, he remained attentive, polite, and efficient. Employees like Ernest truly elevate the dining experience, and I believe his dedication deserves acknowledgment. On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious, which made the evening even more enjoyable.
September 23 · Memento MoriI used to think Shashlik House had the best lula kebab in the United States, but the quality has gone downhill badly. The food and service are nowhere near what they used to be. Recently, I was served rice that tasted like plastic, bread with a hair in it, and my takeout order came completely wrong. Even worse, some of the meat was undercooked. The service has also dropped to an unacceptable level. It looks like there’s only one person running around trying to handle everything, which makes the entire dining experience stressful and unprofessional.Cleanliness is another huge problem. No matter how good the food might be, if the place isn’t clean, it doesn’t matter. I personally saw one of the waiters step into the kitchen where lamb was being cooked, touching food without gloves, and even wiping his nose — completely unacceptable for any restaurant.I’ve tried nearly every location of this restaurant, and the decline is the same across the board. Expanding locations is meaningless if the original quality and standards are lost. This place used to be a gem, but now it’s shocking how far it has fallen.I really hope management wakes up, because right now Shashlik House is failing its loyal customers
September 15 · Kev KevThe food here is absolutely amazing! Hands down, they serve the best shish kebab in town—perfectly seasoned, juicy, and grilled to perfection. The flavors are authentic, and every bite is full of rich, smoky goodness. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Highly recommended for anyone craving delicious Middle Eastern cuisine!
June 15 · Alex BWe recently visited an Uzbek cuisine restaurant and, unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed. We were celebrating a children's holiday, hoping for an atmosphere of fun and joy, but to our surprise, the mood was spoiled. The staff unexpectedly started to stop the children and limit their movements at the moment when they began to have fun. This caused dissatisfaction not only among us but also among the children, who just wanted to enjoy the celebration. Instead of creating a warm and friendly environment, the restaurant unfortunately became a source of stress and disappointment. We expected more attentive treatment towards children and support for the festive mood. We hope that in the future, the restaurant management will take measures to improve the service and consider the opinions of their customers.
