This restaurant started off decent but now it horrible from the food to customer service. When I walk in I’m the one with manners to say hello, thank you, and goodbye. The girl in there has a nasty attitude and on top of that the food just don’t taste good at all I gave them many chances because I like to support my Haitian community. I once had meatballs it was fried throughout I bought some turkey with rice last week after a long day at work I should have just bought bones it was dry with barely any meat and when I went back to get some more the girl gave me another little piece of meat I was so upset I just threw it out. Soumie will NEVER get my money again. BAD REPRESENTATION OF HAITIAN FOOD 🤮 - it'sLinae Linae

What is Worth Choosing Soumie Restaurant

For New York residents in search of authentic Haitian food in the Long Island area, Soumie Restaurant is noteworthy primarily because of its specialized, traditional menu. It is one of the dedicated places in Uniondale where one can find an array of classic dishes rarely available in general Caribbean or Latin American eateries.

The choice to dine at Soumie is fundamentally a choice for authenticity and for supporting a local, culturally specific business. The restaurant provides a concentrated experience of Haitian flavors, with menu items that are staples of the cuisine, such as the Legumes, Turkey, and Griot. The pricing structure, which includes a Large Red Snapper and Large Lambi option, suggests a commitment to generous, satisfying portions typical of comfort food traditions.

It is important to note that while the restaurant receives high praise for its specific dishes and its role in the community—many want to support the Haitian community and have found the food to be traditionally tasty, even describing it as "Taste like moms!"—some customer feedback points to significant challenges in both food consistency and customer service. Reviews have cited issues ranging from dry meats and insufficient portions to concerns about freshness and rude staff, alongside occasional mistakes in orders and an unwillingness to immediately rectify problems.

A potential patron choosing Soumie should be aware that they are opting for a truly Casual experience where the focus is almost entirely on the specific, unique, and powerful flavors of the Haitian menu. Despite the mixed reports on execution and service, the establishment remains a critical spot for its dedicated focus on a cuisine that is otherwise hard to find, offering a necessary culinary anchor for the community and adventurous New York diners alike.
