SUGARFISH is celebrated for several key features and highlights that define its unique appeal.
The "Trust Me" Menus: This is the signature of the SUGARFISH experience. Instead of choosing individual items, guests are encouraged to "trust the chef" and order one of the curated menus. These menus, such as the "Trust Me" and "The Nozawa Trust Me," are a progression of dishes, including sashimi, nigiri sushi, and hand rolls, designed to be enjoyed in a specific order for the best flavor experience. This omakase-style service makes dining a true experience.
Impeccable Quality: The restaurant's philosophy is rooted in using the highest-quality, hand-selected fish. The fish is paired with warm, loosely-packed, and perfectly seasoned rice, a signature element of Chef Nozawa's style that melts in your mouth.
Fast Service: The streamlined menu and service model result in a remarkably fast dining experience without sacrificing quality. This is a major highlight for customers who appreciate efficiency.
Beautiful Atmosphere: The Upper West Side location is praised for being "the largest and most beautifully decorated" of the New York branches. Its decor creates a trendy yet cozy and casual setting that is perfect for a relaxed meal.
Genuine Hospitality: The staff at this location is consistently praised for their "phenomenal" hospitality and attentiveness. This level of service ensures a welcoming and special experience with every visit.
Simple, Traditional Offerings: The menu eschews flashy, complicated American-style rolls in favor of traditional, simple, and pure sushi. This purist approach is a breath of fresh air for those who want to taste the true quality of the fish.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have now dined at the Sugarfish Midtown East, Midtown West, and the Upper West Side locations. While the food is the same and outstanding at all three places, the Upper West Side establishment is by far my favorite spot of the three as it is the largest and most beautifully decorated. This location has become our new go-to spot for Japanese cuisine and a great time out!
September 13 · A RTruly a phenomenal experience every time! We’ve been coming to this sugarfish every month for the past 2 years and the food, as always, is phenomenal. But what makes this location so special is the hospitality. They deserve the recognition. Thank you to our waitress Mia for making our night extra special!
June 02 · Megan MellonI love Sugarfish and am soooo happy they are finally in the UWS, I’ve probably been to almost all of their locations and this one is nestled on the perfect street - since they don’t take reservations there are plenty of things to do nearby if there’s a wait. The sushi is always fresh with rice that’s the perfect temperature and hand rolls that are still crunchy when you get them.
February 17 · Stephanie DeDeckerI’ve been coming to this location for over a year and have always loved the food—it truly is excellent.Unfortunately, the service during my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. We were told the wait would be 30–40 minutes, but that turned out to be completely inaccurate. Even after confirming via text and waiting on site, our party was skipped over another group of the same size - not the same name!!!!!When I brought this up, the supervisor, Wendy, was unwilling to give a clear timeframe for when we would actually be seated. There WAS NO effort to acknowledge the mistake or offer even a simple courtesy like a glass of water while we waited even more. This lack of accountability and accommodation turned what should have been a celebratory evening into a very frustrating one—especially since it was my daughter’s birthday. Based on this experience, I cannot give this restaurant a good rating despite how much I enjoy the food.
September 05 · Alexandra Boet-ThollotSo lucky to have this location so close to me. Sugarfish is one of my favorite sushi chains and their set menu & tip policy make it so easy and relaxed. The food, ambience and service was excellent. Lambo took care of us tonight and he was wonderful. What I love about this location is how intimate, moody and dim it was. The space is cozy and it wasn’t busy, just lively enough. My one complaint is the kitchen. The waiters leave the kitchen through the door that is a very prevalent part of the restaurant, and every time they do, it swings open to reveal very bright white lights that really disturb the vibe and it honestly did bother me. I think there could be a way to rearrange things to make the brightness less distracting.Other than that, everything was perfect. Huge thanks to Lambo for taking an extra step to make our dinner even better, and I’ll definitely be back soon.
