After I tried Maxi’s, quite a few people recommended Superior Wonton Noodle, so I decided to check it out—especially since it’s right in my neighborhood. Are their wontons really better than Maxi’s?Quick verdict: their shrimp wontons are truly SUPERIOR, closely on par with Maxi’s. I even brought home a dozen frozen ones. However, both the beef brisket and flat rice noodles were underwhelming. However, I still prefer Maxi’s for overall quality, but Superior is more affordable. I’d recommend it if you’re in the area. (86 St is my all-time favorite area for authentic Hong Kong food)*Wonton and Beef Brisket Rice Noodle $11I ordered the same thing I got at Maxi’s, and it was a few dollars cheaper here, mainly because you don’t have to pay extra for the beef brisket. The wonton was about the size of a ping pong, generously stuffed with shrimp and pork filling. The shrimp was bouncy, while the wonton skin was not too thick.Unfortunately, the beef brisket was quite tough, so I didn’t finish it. I’ll probably try the beef tendon next time…The flat rice noodles were a letdown—they were so soggy and mushy that I had to use a spoon to scoop them up. Meanwhile, my boyfriend got the thick egg noodles, and they looked much better with a springy texture. - Ruby Chan

A Taste of Hong Kong: Introduction / Overview

Superior Wonton Noodles is not just another Chinese restaurant; it is a specialized noodle shop focused on delivering the authentic experience of Hong Kong-style wonton and noodle dishes. The restaurant’s reputation is built on the perfection of a few core elements: the handmade, generously sized wontons, the springy, al dente egg noodles, and the clear, flavorful broth. This dedication to craft has cemented its status as a local favorite in the Bensonhurst area, particularly on 86th Street, an area well-known for its authentic international cuisine.

The core philosophy here is simple and satisfying: high-quality ingredients, traditional recipes, and generous servings. Diners often remark on the sheer size of the wontons, which are plumply stuffed with succulent shrimp and pork filling, a true departure from the smaller, less substantial versions found elsewhere. In the competitive New York noodle scene, Superior Wonton Noodles is frequently mentioned in conversations comparing the city's best Hong Kong-style wonton shops, a testament to its commitment to authenticity and flavor. If you are looking for a true, unpretentious bowl of culinary perfection, this is a spot that delivers on its "Superior" name.

What is Worth Choosing: Menu Recommendations and Signature Dishes

When visiting Superior Wonton Noodles, the menu offers a straightforward selection of Cantonese classics, making it easy to find a satisfying meal. However, a few dishes and components stand out and are highly recommended by local food enthusiasts.

The Essential Order: The Superior Noodle Soup

The quintessential experience begins with the Superior Noodle Soup. This signature dish is a comprehensive bowl that features all the restaurant’s best elements in one: the famous wontons, savory beef, fish balls, tender beef brisket, and beef tendon. It’s the ideal choice for those who want to sample the full range of quality ingredients the restaurant has to offer.

For the Wonton Purist: The Wonton Noodle Soup

If your primary mission is to enjoy the star of the show, opt for the classic Wonton Noodle Soup or the simpler Onetopping Noodle with just wontons. The large, shrimp-filled wontons are a must-try. You can even purchase them frozen to take home and enjoy later.

Customization and Combo Deals

The menu is designed for a personalized dining experience. The Three Topping Noodle and Two Topping Noodle options allow you to choose your favorite combinations from items like Fish Balls, Sliced Beef, Beef Brisket, and Pork Liver. For a heartier option without soup, consider one of the Lo Mein dishes, which feature the signature springy noodles tossed in a sauce with your choice of toppings.

Locals also highly recommend the Crispy Fish Skin from the Snack menu as a delightful, crunchy side, and the full Single Set Meal combos offer fantastic value, pairing a noodle dish with the crispy fish skin and a refreshing Ice Lemon Tea. For a beverage, don't miss out on the authentic Milk Tea, a perfect accompaniment to the rich flavors of the food.
