What is Worth Choosing: Signature Dishes and Local Favorites
When visiting Yin Ji Chang Fen, the overwhelming menu of over 20 rice roll options and 15 congee types can feel like a delicious challenge. To help you navigate, here are the standout dishes and combinations that local diners frequently highlight:
The King of Chang Fen: Must-Try Rice Rolls
The foundation of the menu is the Rice Roll itself. The traditional steaming process yields a noodle that is thin yet substantial, acting as the perfect wrapper for various savory fillings.
- Dough Stick Rice Noodle Roll (Zha Leung): This is often cited as a must-have. It features a piece of crispy, deep-fried Chinese doughnut (Youtiao) wrapped inside the steamed rice noodle. The contrast between the soft, slippery noodle and the crunchy, airy doughnut is a texture lover's dream.
- Marinated Beef And Shrimp With Chives Rice Noodle Roll: A signature dish that perfectly combines tender marinated beef slices and plump, fresh shrimp, all rolled with fragrant chives for a complete, savory bite.
- Marinated Beef With Chives Rice Noodle Roll: Another top-reordered item, praised for its tender beef and the classic enhancement of soy sauce.
Congee for the Soul
The congee—a silky, flavorful rice porridge—is the perfect companion to a rice roll, or a warming meal on its own.
- Shredded Pork And Preserved Egg Congee (Pi Dan Shou Rou Zhou): The quintessential classic. The savory preserved egg and lean shredded pork provide a deep, complex flavor to the smooth, creamy rice porridge base.
- Signature Seafood Congee: A decadent bowl loaded with fresh seafood ingredients, perfect for those seeking a richer flavor.
- Lai Wan Style Congee: A classic Cantonese 'boat porridge' style, featuring a rich assortment of ingredients, often including fish, peanuts, and other savory bits.
- Pairing Tip: For a true Cantonese experience, order a side Dough Stick ($3.50) to tear and dip into your bowl of hot congee.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I didn’t know this place until I walked past today. This place serves local chinese food at an affordable price in a proper restaurant setting with cleanliness and good service. The place takes cash and card. It seems like they are well spread out in both Canada and New York. The food is super good as well and well worth it for the price. The chinese doughnut and fish congee is definitely a must have. Large Portions too!!
July 04 · Aung KyawVery good rice noodles, the sauce goes so well with it. However I do think it is slightly expensive for the portion, each rice roll is about $8 and it’s not that big. The milk tea here is also pre-made which when I ordered it, I was surprised because usually milk tea is made to order. It tasted very watery too. I wouldn’t recommend getting the milk tea if you come but the rice rolls are very good.
July 30 · Sabrina ZhangThis place is bomb! Never have expected it. I left fully satisfied and full. Amazing flavor from the soy sauce noodles. Congee was great portion despite the bowl size looking small. Everything tasted fresh. Ventilation needs a bit more work but interior was overall very clean. Service was great. Overall can’t wait to dine in again. Nice early breakfast or weekend brunch on a lazy Sunday. Soul food because winter is coming. Hope these guys keep it up 👍
October 29 · Ricky LongWe were extremely disappointed with the restaurant in our neighborhood that we had been so excited about. The food was not up to par with the restaurant in China that we had enjoyed so much. The congee was too watery and left us feeling bloated, and the curry combo was mostly pigs skin with very little of anything else. The only dish that we found satisfying was the stemmed noodles, but they were overpriced. We could easily find a cheaper alternative in our neighborhood. Overall, it was a letdown and we are unsure if we will be returning.
April 16 · H HThe rice noodles were great, very soft! Note that they are Guangzhou style, so they have yellow chives and some lettuce them. I really like the congee. Nice rich and cream with savory century egg! Definitely recommend the typical beef and shrimp noodles, but try out the chicken with mushroom.
