Terranova Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers who understand that the foundation of a great meal is truly exceptional bread, Terranova Bakery is a name that resonates with authenticity, tradition, and unparalleled quality. Situated in the heart of the famed Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx—often celebrated as the city's true Little Italy—Terranova is far more than a neighborhood bakery; it is a culinary institution. The establishment operates as both a specialized retail bakery for the public and a crucial wholesale bakery supplying top-tier bread to restaurants, delis, and distributors across the region.
Terranova Bakery’s enduring mission, dating back to 1967, has been to produce amazing bread, a commitment evident in every loaf. The focus is distinctly on traditional Italian baking, using time-honored methods and recipes to create products that evoke a strong sense of heritage. The quality is so legendary that one customer testified to flying 2,000 miles just to get the taste of the bread they grew up with in New York, a powerful testament to the bakery's profound connection to the local community and its culinary memory.
The bakery offers a breathtaking range of products, but its true specialization lies in its vast and diverse bread catalog. From Rustic Italian Breads like their iconic Pane Di Casa to countless varieties of Semolina and Specialty Breads, the selection is meticulously crafted. While the primary emphasis is on these savory, hearty, and crusty creations, the storefront provides a truly immersive experience for anyone seeking the definitive New York Italian bread. The atmosphere is centered around a quick visit, prioritizing the efficient purchase of fresh bread, though the quality encourages a moment of appreciation for the craft.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great little storefront with fresh bread items and some sparse desserts (just packaged cookies). No cakes, danish or similar treats available. The staff were all super sweet and helpful. Their olive bread is amazing! A previous reviewer mentioned them “making” off menu items for their friends/neighbors and I fully believe her. A gent came in during my visit and requested something they definitely don’t carry but they told him to wait while getting it prepared for him. Guess it’s more “who you know”. I’ll definitely return just for the pane di casa and olive bread.

I flew 2000 miles just to get the bread. Thank you very much. Growing up in the bronx, I missed this. THANK YOU Joe Adessa
August 12 · Joe AdessaMoved away from NY many years ago. But today we returned to Arthur Ave and 187th, Bronx NY. Terranova you have awakened a childhood memory with your "LARD BREAD" that you call "CHICKLE"? I have not had lard bread that porky and delicious in 60 yrs! Now after returning home, I will make another trip to get as much of it as you have on hand. The other bread is also very good but the lard bread has to be hidden from me or else....
August 28 · Joe CuceThe most delicious! Try just their basic pizza bread and be blown away! My favorite is the Prosciutto Bread, fresh out of the oven it's only $5.
