The Pamplemousse Project Introduce
The Pamplemousse Project, a standout specialty café and coffee shop located in the heart of White Plains, NY, has quickly established itself as more than just a place to grab an excellent latte. This unique establishment operates with a powerful mission: to serve the community in more ways than one, making it a true social enterprise in Westchester County. For residents and visitors alike, The Pamplemousse Project offers an inviting and comfortable atmosphere coupled with the positive feeling of knowing that every purchase contributes directly to local charitable causes. It has become a genuine community hub, a joyful gathering spot, and a significant funding resource for non-profit organizations right in the neighborhood.
The café's core identity is captured in its mission statement: "Coffee for the Community." This goal translates into a commitment to donate 100% of all profits back to local charitable organizations that support the White Plains and greater Westchester community. The founders, Lydia and Gary Kris, saw a need in the community and paired their desire to create a welcoming space with an urge to give back. They function as a market-oriented business focused on operational efficiency and profitability, but adhere to the guidelines of a Beneficial Corporation (B-Corp) concerning environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies. Instead of replacing non-profits, the cafe serves to vet, prioritize, and make essential grants to established local 501(c)(3) organizations.
Since opening in December 2022, The Pamplemousse Project has consistently funneled significant funds back into the community, supporting vital areas such as education, affordable housing, food security, health, arts, and human services. Past grant recipients demonstrate the breadth of their support, including organizations focused on animal rescue (Paws Crossed Animal Rescue, SPCA Westchester), supporting the homeless (Lifting Up Westchester), domestic violence victims (My Sister’s Place, Pace Women’s Justice Center), and children’s health (Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Friends of Karen). This dedication to local causes is a core part of its appeal to conscious consumers in the New York area.
Beyond financial grants, the café fosters community involvement through its Customer Advisory Board. Loyalty club members are invited to join this board, which provides direction and guidance on awarding grants, offering the community a direct say in where the profits are distributed. This unique model of community involvement ensures the café's impact remains highly relevant to local needs.
The atmosphere of The Pamplemousse Project is best described as casual, cozy, quiet, and trendy, making it a perfect spot for various activities. Whether you are meeting a group, studying solo, or enjoying a quick moment of peace, the setting is designed to delight all ages. It's a place where families, groups, locals, and the LGBTQ+ community can feel welcome. Furthermore, for those who prefer to work remotely, the café is known to be a great spot for working on a laptop, complete with free Wi-Fi access and comfortable seating.
The café's commitment to quality extends to its product offerings. The coffee is ethically-sourced, meaning the roasters meet rigorous standards for environmental, economic, and social responsibility, ensuring stability for farmers and reducing environmental impact. Every beverage, from a simple cup of the Pamplemousse Roast to a complex iced creation, is hand-crafted by highly trained baristas.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The barista/cashier was nice. The baked pastries 0/5. The coffee wasn’t bad but the matcha was light on the matcha and heavy on the milk. The place is cute and I can see myself studying or working here. I would rather support this place than the starbucks nearby.
April 22 · suzanneLove Pamplemousse and their mission:The Pamplemousse Project is a new specialty cafe in White Plains, NY serving ethically-sourced coffee and hand-crafted drinks, fresh baked goods, and confections. But we offer more than just the best drinks and treats in town. Our goal is to become a community hub and joyful gathering place and to bring a spirit of fun to our customers and community. And our commitment to the community goes even further: our mission is to donate 100% of profits back to local nonprofit organizations. We are “Coffee for the Community.”
April 09 · Shawn WThis is a good place to get coffee and to do good. They are a community improvement not-for-profit so you get a twofer, good coffee and grace from your consumption.
August 02 · Ramon RodriguezThis is an interesting place. I've tried a lot of their drinks, pastries and chocolates. They close early, so if you want to stop by I'd recommend stopping by earlier in the day when they have more food options. This place can get quite busy during the day; it can be difficult to find a seat inside.I'd recommend their coffee and their quiche.During the warmer months, you can sit outside too.I'm looking forward to stopping back in and trying more of their winter drinks.
June 20 · Colette HebertLoved the smiles, atmoshere and special touches this business brings to our community. All food and drinks are brought to the comfort of our chairs and clean up is a breeze. FREE WIFI and all profits are donated to local non for profits. Thank you for all your service!!
