What is Worth Choosing
Tokyo Hanten is worth choosing for New Jersey residents specifically for its specialization in authentic, often hard-to-find Chinese-Japanese fusion cuisine and its location within a major cultural destination. While many Japanese restaurants in New Jersey focus heavily on sushi, Tokyo Hanten offers comforting, homestyle food that is a celebrated part of Japanese culinary culture.
The main reason to choose Tokyo Hanten is the exceptional value and quality of its combination plates. At price points around $13.00, customers receive a substantial, well-balanced meal—whether it’s the savory hamburger steak and gyoza or the crispy fried chicken and omelet over rice. The fact that this is provided in a casual setting with free parking makes it an economical and enjoyable dining option for lunch or dinner in an otherwise pricey area.
Patrons highly recommend the Teriyaki Hamburger with rice and the Omelet on Rice dishes, noting the tenderness of the dark-meat chicken and the satisfying nature of the meals. The unique offering of dishes like Kimchi and Pork Fried Rice further showcases the fusion aspect and provides exciting options beyond standard fare. If you are looking for a taste of authentic Japanese comfort food that is affordable, filling, and provides the bonus of a great atmosphere (and potential skyline view!), Tokyo Hanten in Edgewater is a must-visit destination.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you’re heading to Mitsuwa, make sure to carve out some time to try Tokyo Hanten. We had the Teriyaki Hamburger with rice—it’s a solid meal, and for the price, you really get good value.I tried it a few years ago and remember the meat being a bit better back then, but it’s still a tasty and satisfying option. Worth checking out if you’re in the food court!
April 05 · sam siWe got the egg omelette with fried chicken. It’s 4 pieces of karaage on top of a Japanese omelette over rice. It’s served with what I think was a cup of miso. Or something similar. The chicken was pretty good. It’s dark meat. The omelet was good too. Overall it was a bit bland, but much preferable to too much salt. I’d get it again. We snagged a spot by the window so we got to eat with a view of the skyline, but it’s busy so don’t count on it
April 13 · LauraBeen coming to this restaurant for 7 or so years from New York or on my way entering New York from visiting New Jersey. Always been stellar but I don't think I will be returning anytime soon. The food is decent. Especially if your into the Japanese style hamburg served over fried rice. The fried rice doesn't have much flavor but acceptable for the price. The models of the food displaying on the wall of the restaurant aren't 100 percent honest. Those are a model of steak...what you get is a "hamburger patty". So it's a bit smaller. Aside from the food, the service has always been acceptable until today. The Asian young man with glasses at the register was rude. Spoke extremely quietly and when asked to repeat themselves, he glared. Made his job easier when I told him I wanted it "for here" and he wasn't paying attention and sounded like he hated the world and asked me if I wanted it for here or to go. When the food finally came and there was multiple orders at the register, he did not direct the customers and he sounded annoyed expecting the customers to know which order was which when some looked similar. Please discipline your employees, because this is how you lose valued your customers.
December 16 · †Luckson LeungExcellent value for item #30, you get two giant patties, fried rice and soup for $15.99. Service is fast and presentable for fast-food. The karaage was superb as well.
December 03 · D TTHE NOODLES HERE ARE NOT EDIBLE!Ordered noodle from this place, and got something that’s harder than the raw instant noodle. The noodles are so hard and dry, and when I give it back, the cashier cannot even break it with her hands. One of the cashier was nice and reasonable enough to offer to take it back and give a refund, the other one cashier, totally not making sense, yells at her: why you agree to take it back?Totally unbelievable
