A busy Friday night: The young staff was overwhelmed. It's an informal place and we sat ourselves at a table with other people. It took 10-15 minutes before anyone came over to our table to ask if we wanted anything. Found our own menus. They gave us free chips to apologize for the wait, but we didn't have water to offset the spice in the salsa. Turns out there is a self-serve station for water, but it was not communicated to us. Our food came before our drinks. Utensils came after as well.All that said, the food was GOOD. Carnitas and short rib were tender, tortillas were very fresh. We tried the corn fritters, which were a more unique side dish option from the usual Mexican fare. Background music added a fun vibe but wasn't too loud for conversation.At the end of the evening, our server told us it was the first time they were that busy since they opened.They took the Foodie Card.

A small parking lot by the restaurant but it’s a bit tight and annoying especially when busy. They have the same happy hours and daily specials as the Huntington location but whereas the Huntington is self serve, this location has wait staff. Our server was very kind and helpful and even gave our girl a birthday churro with singing which she loved.Frozen marg was good 8/10 and comes in a variety of flavors but the flavor is a syrup that is placed on the bottom so you mix it.Strawberry marg on the rocks but it was way too sweet 6/10.Fish tacos 8/10Smashmouth 8/10braised short rib 6/10carnitas 6/10Nachos 6/10 (tbh I just don’t like Tommy tacos nachos - it’s too hard but also tastes stale to me), queso 5/10, medium salsa 6/10, guacamole 8/10Pulled chicken quesadillas 7/10Note - their bathroom is NOT kid friendly; I didn’t realize till my kid came back saying it was very freaky and scary…

We had a shocking experience at the new Tommy Tacos in Syosset this evening. We have been long-time fans of the original location in Huntington. We live closer to Syosset, so have been awaiting the opening of this second location. Our first visit was the week they opened, on a Friday night. They prominently advertise a “happy hour” and the place was packed. The food was good and “Tommy” himself was there, friendly and thanking customers for being there. We went back for the second time tonight, again on a Friday night. We arrived around 6:15 pm and ordered 2 beers, along with some food. The draft beers are advertised at $3/beer. We had an issue with something on our check, which the waitress had done incorrectly 2 times. Before correcting it after the second time, the owner came over and asked us some questions about the issue. He wasn’t warm or friendly, but he apologized and fixed the issue. After that, when I went to pay, I noticed that we had been charged $8 for the beers ($4/beer). I showed the waitress, who pointed to the discount (which was $6) and said, yes, it was $6. The owner then chimed in and I showed him the issue. I pointed out that the menu clearly said $3/beer. He said, “Oh yeah, we increased the price by $1” and started to walk away. I said, please correct our check to what was advertised. He said “That is your check” and again started to walk away. I was getting ready to just pay the bill (because, whatever, it is $2). But then I realized that it isn’t about the money. It’s about the way he was treating me as a customer - and long time repeat customer at that. I went up to the bar, where he was doing a task and I asked “Don’t you care about your customers?”. He said, “Whatever, one menu was wrong” and I said, “Sir, all the menus say $3” - and picked up a menu that was laying on the bar and showed him the price. He turned to the bartender and said “Just give her $2 in cash. Give her $3. I don’t care”. I was and am completely in shock at this treatment and complete lack of politeness and customer service from an owner. Maybe he was having a bad day and maybe he normally has great customer service. Unfortunately, I won’t ever find out, because I will no longer be a customer at his restaurants.

We had an amazing dinner at Tommy Tacos and Tequila in Syosset! From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. The bartender, Laura, made delicious margaritas and created such a warm, welcoming vibe — we truly had the best time. The food was absolutely delicious, and our server was attentive and friendly, making the night even better.I highly recommend this spot for a date night, group get-together, or happy hour with friends. You’re guaranteed great food, an amazing atmosphere, and a memorable time. Can't wait to go back!

While there were aspects to the food and experience that were good, at the end of the meal a check was presented that had a "Tech Fee 3%" charge. The fee name and were presented on the bill was odd and seemingly purposefully so.We paid in cash but noted had not received a cash discount. When it was brought to the attention of a woman that was thought to be in a management capacity, she was not pleasant about it nor apologetic.It was confirmed we had paid in cash, and then reluctantly she said she would bring the overcharged 3% back (meant to be added to the tip, bringing it to around 22%).After waiting several minutes and not having the funds returned, ultimately we got up and I told that woman to give the refund to the server.Sadly, it seems like that 3% is a profit center that will only be refunded for a cash payment if you call it to their attention and make a point of it.Needless to say we won't be returning and I would not have written this review but for that experience with the cash payment.
