This women-owned establishment sets itself apart with its unique combination of great music, fantastic cocktails, and a welcoming, trendy atmosphere. It's a destination for locals and tourists alike who are looking to let loose and dance to some of the best disco and funk music in the city. The bar's reputation for being a great time, despite a potentially intimidating line, speaks volumes about its quality and appeal.
The atmosphere at Joyface is the perfect blend of casual and trendy. The space is designed to be cozy and inviting, making it a comfortable place to hang out with friends and meet new people. The crowd is described as beautiful and diverse, with the bar proudly identifying as LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender-safe space. This inclusivity creates an environment where everyone can feel welcome and safe to express themselves. The overall vibe is one of pure fun and good energy, a refreshing escape from the typical New York bar scene.
One of the major highlights of Joyface is undoubtedly the music. The DJs are known for being incredible, spinning a curated mix of strictly disco and funk. For those who love to dance, this is the perfect spot. The music is a central part of the experience, and it's what keeps people coming back again and again. While some patrons have noted that the music selection can be repetitive on certain nights, for a first-time visitor or someone looking for a dependable disco night, it's a guaranteed good time. The combination of great tunes and a lively crowd makes Joyface a premier destination for dancing.
Beyond the music, the drinks are another major draw. Joyface is known for its great cocktails, offering a menu of both classic and neo-classic drinks. You can find well-made versions of a Negroni, Hemingway Daiquiri, and Margarita, as well as more modern concoctions like the Chili Pepper Daisy and the ever-popular Espresso Martini. The quality of the drinks, combined with the fast and attentive service, ensures that you can enjoy your night without long waits at the bar. For groups, the "Large Format" option for certain cocktails is a great way to share and enjoy the night together. The bar also offers a selection of beer, hard liquor, and wine, catering to all tastes.
While the line to get in can be long, many reviews suggest that arriving early, before 10:00 PM, is the best way to avoid it. This "if you know, you know" aspect adds to the bar's exclusive, yet welcoming, reputation. The management, and the door staff, have a huge impact on the customer experience, and while some recent reviews have noted a change in this, the overall consensus remains that Joyface is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves to dance and have a good time. It's a place that is vibrant, full of energy, and an absolute treat for your senses.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is one of those places in New York City that if you know you know. The line might be intimidating, but it is absolutely worth it. The DJs are incredible. The drinks are very very good. The crowd is very beautiful. That's the best way I can put it. I would recommend getting here before 10:00 or right after 10:00 to avoid the line. The line truly can be intimidating. Let me just reiterate that but other than that 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone who loves to dance to strictly dance disco funk music.
July 28 · Hollis StephensonPlace used to be it! Until they brought in the new “door girl” and got rid of the original staff. So unbelievably rude, pick me energy. Also, the same music plays every time. I get it’s about throwbacks, but when I say the order and everything is absolutely the same.. it’s become a place you can’t rely on every weekend & visits need to be spaced out. Try going next door to HiLot, wont disappoint and they actually know how to make a drink!
September 18 · That NYC GirlIt is crowded, but people are respectful. Jump on the mini stage, get on the water bed, snap a picture with your bestie, and then dance to the 80s and 90s. It's like prom night, but better.
May 03 · Diahann De RuggerioGreat 70/80s dance music with a pretty eclectic crowd committed to have the best time. Energy & service was top notch, (love that water bottles were available at the bar to help yourself) including the security by the door.Drinks were a bit expensive though.
June 10 · Lu de MedeirosI really wanted to give this place a 5 star review. I saw not so great reviews before I came here, and I was in total awe of the decor and atmosphere when I got there. But, a gin and tonic was $20, and the bartender was rude. My boyfriend asked if he had any suggestions and he said "no, I don't."Then, my friend tried to meet up with us. Because it was after 9:30, she was turned away because she needed a "reservation". We had to go out and grab her, and the bouncer (girl with dark hair and bangs, you need a vibe check) said to her "yeah, you need a reservation after 930. And you never showed me your ID".To the owners of this place, y'all need to take a chill pill and speak with your employees about how to create a welcoming atmosphere.
