If you thought the chocolate babka from Breads Bakery was the last word in chocolate-layered breads, you haven't met Weiss Bakery's kokosh yet. Similarly chocolatey and swirly in form, kokosh is fudgy, dense chewy, ooey and gooey where babka is fluffy and brioche-like.I also got the poppyseed roll, which has a similarly chewy and dense texture and density to kokosh, only the filling is made with a poppyseed spread. Both pastries are immensely fun to unroll and eat layer by layer. The overall effect of both the kokosh and the poppyseed roll reminds me a little of baked Chinese mooncakes or baklava: dense, faintly flaky pastry with a chewy, dense and sticky texture. If these things sound appealing to you, come on over and give it a try. I promise it's worth the trek on the D train. It is 8.99 per pound, and portions are sold by the pound. I'm planning on freezing what I can't eat... bahaha as if that will happen. - Jin Chua

Weiss Kosher Bakery Introduce

### Introduction / Overview

For New Yorkers seeking a taste of authentic, time-honored baking traditions, **Weiss Kosher Bakery** on 13th Avenue in Brooklyn is an essential destination. Located in the heart of Borough Park, this establishment is far more than just a local sweet shop; it is a pillar of the community, specializing in traditional **Kosher baked goods** and a full array of prepared foods. Weiss Kosher Bakery is classified fundamentally as a **Bakery**, but also serves vital roles as a **Wedding bakery** supplying custom creations for special occasions, and a **Wholesale bakery**, distributing its quality products more broadly.

The core appeal of Weiss lies in its commitment to "old-school" or "heimeshe" quality—a friendly, traditional approach to Jewish baking that prioritizes richness and authenticity. The ambiance is one of bustling neighborhood commerce, reflecting its deep roots in the community. One of the most compelling reasons for New Yorkers to make the trip (often recommended to be "worth the trek on the D train") is to experience their legendary pastries. Specifically, the **Kokosh** is a standout item, often hailed by patrons as a superior alternative to the popular Babka. Where Babka is often fluffy and brioche-like, the Weiss Kokosh is celebrated for being "fudgy, dense, chewy, ooey and gooey," a rich, flat, and intensely chocolaty Hungarian-Jewish pastry strip, sold by the pound.

Beyond the famed Kokosh, the bakery offers a full spectrum of fresh-baked goods, from savory breads to sweet delights like **black and white cookies**, **chocolate bells**, and classic **danishes**. Additionally, menu items extend well beyond simple pastries to include a variety of breakfast, lunch, and prepared foods, such as various **sandwiches (lox, tuna, egg salad)**, **pizzas**, and traditional Jewish staples like **Gefilte Fish** and **Potato Latke**. This extensive offering makes Weiss Kosher Bakery a comprehensive stop for daily needs and celebratory events alike, perfectly suited for the fast-paced, demanding lifestyle of New York residents who appreciate quality and tradition in one convenient location.

The bakery is designed for efficiency and accessibility. It offers both **Delivery** and **Takeout** options, facilitating a **Quick visit** for the busy customer. Notably, the acceptance of **SNAP/EBT** payments ensures accessibility to essential goods for all members of the New York community, further solidifying its role as a key local resource.
