XIN LA GONG FU 辛辣功夫 麻辣烫 신라쿵푸 마라탕 Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Jersey residents with an appetite for authentic, bold, and customizable Chinese cuisine, XIN LA GONG FU (辛辣功夫) in Fort Lee is an essential stop. This vibrant Chinese and Asian restaurant has carved out a specialty niche in the competitive Bergen County dining scene, focusing on the thrilling flavors of Szechuan-style spice, known as 'Mala'—the signature numbing and spicy sensation. The restaurant's name, which includes the Chinese characters for 'Spicy Kung Fu' and the Korean-derived 'Shin-ra-kung-pu Ma-ra-tang', proudly announces its expertise in heat and flavor.
XIN LA GONG FU is renowned for its three core offerings: Hot Pot (Mala Tang), Dry Hot Pot (Mala Xiang Guo), and Mala Ban. Unlike traditional communal hot pot, Mala Tang is often a customizable, single-serving hot soup base where your chosen ingredients are cooked for you, offering a rich and flavorful broth that customers often praise as being so good they "can't help but want to take two more sips of the soup!" The Dry Hot Pot offers a different, intense flavor experience—it is essentially a customizable stir-fry of your selected ingredients, coated in a concentrated, aromatic, numbing-spicy sauce and served with rice. Meanwhile, Mala Ban is a spicy cold mix that is often served as a highly seasoned, aromatic appetizer or light meal, offering a refreshing take on the signature spice blend.
The menu is built around these customizable main dishes, allowing patrons to choose ingredients by weight (in pounds), ensuring a fresh and personalized meal every time. Complementing the main pots and mixes are classic sides like Fried Rice, Mapo Tofu with Rice, and a selection of delicious Skewers—including Beef, Lamb, and Fish Cake—that contribute to a truly authentic and satisfying Chinese dining experience. With a clean, inviting atmosphere and attentive customer service, XIN LA GONG FU offers a memorable culinary adventure right on Main Street.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had a great time with my meal! The food was delicious and I really enjoyed it. I wish they would use the traditional dough skin for the shrimp and chive dumplings instead of the wonton skins. But overall, it was a tasty experience and I’ll definitely be back next time!
July 14 · Nancy HanThe Food was exquisite! The customer service was splendid very welcoming and attentive. They have option of take out, but dinning in is also very inviting. They have clean restrooms and an open concept. A 10 out of 10, definitely. We ordered a few dishes and they were all my favorite.Pictures featured:Mala Chicken Tender, sweet buns, lamb skewers, Fish Cake Skewers, Mapo Tofu with Rice.
May 17 · Daisy Belle CarrizalesFirst time at this restaurant and it was very good. My wife got a dry pot and I had the shrimp fried rice. Good food and helpful service. Small dining area can accommodate about 18 to 20 people. Parking in Fort Lee can be challenging but we found on street parking.
June 01 · Dana RubinThis place is my all-time favorite. If I could recommend only one place in NJ, this would be it. I literally come here just to take out a big box so I can survive the week. The peanut Mala Ban is the highlight—the peanut flavor adds a special touch to the ordinary malatang. And if by any chance you're allergic to peanuts, don't worry—everything else is just as delicious! I also love that you can pick exactly what you want in the "build your own" section. The prices are affordable, and the workers here are friendly and super nice. Definitely come check it out!The pictures below to prove that I’ve been here multiple times.
March 30 · Selina Liutried malatang for the first time here!i've always been hesitant to do so because i have a peanut allergy, but the manager assured me that they could make the malatang without the traditional peanut sauce. even though he said it wouldn't taste the same and urged me to try the malaxiangguo next time because its default is without peanuts, i still had the malatang this time. and it was really delicious!i also got a beef and lamb skewer each (min. order for skewers is 2) and the spice mix was phenomenal.definitely making this a regular of mine in fort lee and bringing all my friends next time!
