Yella's Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents and, specifically, students in the Montclair State University (MSU) area of Little Falls Township, New Jersey, Yella's at Machuga Heights has carved out a unique and essential niche in the local dining scene. This American restaurant, a local New Jersey brand with roots that trace back over 90 years through a family legacy, specializes in the kind of indulgent comfort food that is perfect for satisfying hunger any time of the day—or night. Yella's proudly operates under the motto, “Food Worth Screaming About,” a nod to the founder's energetic nickname. The menu is a tribute to classic American favorites, offering an extensive selection of burgers, towering deli and hot subs, chicken sandwiches, and hand-spun milkshakes.
The core identity of Yella's is built around substantial, high-quality offerings. Their famous burgers feature a proprietary blend, and their deli classics are piled high with premium, hand-sliced meats and cheeses, all reflecting a commitment to doing things "the right way versus the easy way." While Yella's has established locations serving the broader New Jersey public, such as in Hawthorne and Warren, the Machuga Heights location is specifically tailored to the fast-paced, demanding environment of a university campus. This setting positions Yella's not just as another restaurant, but as a critical amenity for the MSU community, offering a casual and group-friendly atmosphere for students looking for a quick lunch, a dinner break, or, most critically, a late-night meal.
The restaurant provides the essential service of being a comfort food haven on campus, available for both dine-in enjoyment and convenient take-out. However, its significant role as one of the few dining options open after typical dinner hours—reportedly after 8:00 PM when other campus venues close—often makes it a vital resource for students with late classes or club meetings. This necessity, though appreciated for its availability, means Yella's operates under high demand, which can sometimes lead to extended wait times, as noted in customer feedback. Despite some student comments regarding pricing and occasional inconsistencies in the speed and quality of service during peak demand, the consensus is that the food, while indulgent and greasy, is generally satisfying and, for many, the best choice available for campus dining, especially for those late-night cravings. The overall experience is casual, welcoming groups, and accepting various payment methods including credit and debit cards for student convenience.
Location and Accessibility
Yella's is uniquely situated on the campus of Montclair State University, making it exceptionally convenient for students, faculty, and staff of the institution.
The official address places it directly within a key student hub:
Machuga Heights, Webster Road, Little Falls Township, NJ 07424, USA
While this location is an on-campus spot next to Sam's Place, its operation in Little Falls Township ensures it serves the western edge of the broader Montclair area. For the average New Jersey resident, it is important to note that access is primarily geared toward the university community. Nevertheless, for those visiting the campus area for events or other reasons, the location offers practical accessibility features, including a wheelchair-accessible parking lot. This on-campus setting means the restaurant is a short walk for thousands of students and dorm residents, which explains its crucial role in the late-night dining options for the MSU population.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Yella's at Machuga Heights is an acknowledgment of its essential service to the Montclair State University community and its dedication to classic American indulgence. What makes Yella's truly worth choosing is its dual role: providing a menu of satisfying, flavorful comfort food—especially the signature deli sandwiches and the popular Jersey Smash burger—while simultaneously offering the only reliable late-night dining option on campus. The brand's focus on quality meats and its commitment to generous portions in its subs and cheesesteaks are a testament to its long-standing family history in the New Jersey food scene. While some patrons have expressed concerns about high prices and wait times during peak late-night rushes, these factors are often a direct consequence of its irreplaceable role as a primary source for after-hours meals. For New Jersey locals and MSU students alike, Yella's is the necessary, often delicious, and always available destination for a classic American meal that, in true New Jersey fashion, is “Food Worth Screaming About.”

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The food here is definitely some of the best on campus. I agree with the other comments, though. It is unacceptable that this place is one of the few open after 8pm. Also I agree the prices are rather high, and the prices for the chicken tenders is straight up highway robbery. The staff are relatively nice, atmosphere is good, food is good, but prices are high. Overall I would rate it a 4/5.
February 03 · BozzAs a student that attends Montclair State University I am appalled to admit that I order from this place every night. Because every other dining option on campus closes around 8:00 pm, I am left with no choice but to order from yellas when I have a late class or a late club meeting. Every time I eat here I feel sick the next day and I know I am not alone in this feeling. The food is greasy and unfortunately sometimes inedible. The shakes are so liquidy that it’s ridiculous that they charge us so much money for some flavored milk.As this is the only late night dining option on campus the wait times are extreme: typically over an hour. It is not only unfair to the employees (that are definitely not getting paid enough) and to the students. Also is $10 for 3 chicken tenders fair to broke college students? If this school wants to have a 91% acceptance rate they should at least be able to feed their students…without them pooping their brains out the next day.
September 14 · isabella taylorThe food here is insanely overpriced. And I'm like talking about like three times the price of what you would get at an actual diner. They sell what they call "Burgers" but are more actually sliders. They are very cheaply made because you could see that the buns were in a giant pack and this feels like it was made by a robot. Don't even bother looking at the chicken because you will be spending so much money it's insane. The price here is extortion and especially on a college campus? There is little shame in this business and I feel like people need to know more about it. The students here should demand for better food service and for a better price. And come on, a milkshake for $9? It's so shameless they don't bother hiding it. Look at their Facebook and they are selling such insane things for such intense prices. Their Sunday game football deal sold 16 chicken tenders for $40? In what world is that normal?!Another horrible thing this company does is profit off of the Autism Spectrum Disorder. They sell products at a markup and have failed to prove that they donate any of the profits to any autism related charity. As someone with Autism myself, it is horrendous when people and corporations use it to profit off of the disorder. The people running this company should be ashamed to price-gouge students and to profit off of the autism name.
