8 AVE Bao Zi包仔 Introduce
In the vibrant, culinary landscape of Brooklyn, New York, 8 AVE Bao Zi包仔 stands out as a dedicated purveyor of authentic regional Chinese cuisine, specifically specializing in the distinct and comforting flavors of Fuzhou. More than just a local Chinese restaurant or chop bar, this establishment is a cultural hub that brings the savory, umami-rich traditions of Fujian Province’s capital city right to 8th Avenue. For New Yorkers looking to explore beyond common Chinese-American fare, 8 AVE Bao Zi offers a truly original and high-quality dining experience.
The restaurant’s name itself—"Bao Zi" (包仔)—hints at its core specialty: delicious, handcrafted buns and dumplings. However, the menu extends far beyond steamed and pan-fried delights, encompassing the full range of Fuzhou-style cooking. This regional cuisine is celebrated for being light yet flavorful, focusing on fresh, mellow, and meaty flavors with a distinct emphasis on soup—a culinary tradition beautifully showcased in their comprehensive selection of comforting Crock Pot Soups. Whether you are craving a quick, satisfying bite or a nourishing, deeply flavored meal, 8 AVE Bao Zi is tailored for a casual, enjoyable dining experience suitable for lunch, dinner, or solo dining.
The depth of their offering is particularly evident in the range of Fuzhou specialties. Patrons can discover iconic dishes like Fish Ball W Filling (有馅鱼丸一碗), which are a signature of Fuzhou cuisine, renowned for their delicate fish paste exterior and savory minced pork filling. Additionally, the menu features Fuchow Dumpling Soup (福州肉燕), also known as Rouyan, a type of wonton made with a special, delicate ‘yanpi’ skin—a pork-based wrapper that provides a unique texture not found in typical wontons. The dedication to these regional classics provides an authentic taste of Fuzhou for local New York diners, distinguishing 8 AVE Bao Zi in a crowded market.
The atmosphere at 8 AVE Bao Zi is decidedly casual, making it a perfect spot for everyday dining. It’s a place where the focus is firmly on the food's quality and authenticity, offering genuine Chinese comfort food and quick bites for the busy New Yorker. While the store is beloved for its flavors, customers often note the genuine, though sometimes busy, nature of the staff. It is a genuine, non-fussy local spot, where the food speaks for itself.

The unique Crock Pot Soups are a particular draw, providing warm, deeply savory broths that are perfect for a cool New York day. The slow-simmered ingredients, such as in the Healthy Pork Belly Clay Pot Soup (养生猪肚瓦罐汤), reflect a focus on nourishment and flavor extraction that elevates the simple act of eating soup into a restorative ritual. These soups, often considered medicinal in Chinese tradition, offer a wholesome contrast to the fast-paced life of the city.
Beyond the soups, the commitment to fresh, hand-made items like the various baozi and dumplings is a testament to their dedication to quality. Whether it’s the popular Panfried Stuffed Bun (生煎包) at $1.80 each, or a larger order of Xiao Long Bao, the freshness is palpable. The menu is structured to be affordable and approachable, offering great value for money on high-quality, authentic food. The availability of Special Combo (饭团特惠) sets, such as the option that includes three pan-fried buns, a choice of mixed noodles, and soy milk, provides a perfect, cost-effective introduction to their bestsellers. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for quick, solo dining experiences as well as more comprehensive meals.
Finally, the availability of Frozen Food (冷冻食品) is a massive convenience for the New York resident. The ability to purchase high-quality, house-made items like Panfried Stuffed Bun 1 Pack, Chive Dumplings 1 Pack, or Fuding Sliced Pork to prepare at home allows patrons to enjoy authentic Fuzhou flavors on their own schedule. This service underscores the restaurant’s role as a true community resource for authentic Chinese culinary products. Despite occasional notes on customer service, the high praise for the food itself confirms that 8 AVE Bao Zi delivers on its core promise: authentic, flavorful, and deeply satisfying Fuzhou Chinese cuisine right here in Brooklyn.

8 AVE Bao Zi包仔 Reviews
I went in to buy meat-filled duck eggs and was told by the boss lady that the previous customer had just bought all of them and paid for 2 bags of meat-filled duck eggs. When I was waiting in the store, the boss lady asked me to go out for a walk and buy other things I wanted to buy first. I went out for more than half an hour and came back to find that two customers in front of me had just bought meat-filled duck eggs and left. I was told that my meat-filled duck eggs were not ready yet, so I asked her how long they would take. The boss lady said that they would pack mine now and it would be very fast for 2 people. After hearing this, I asked the boss lady to return the money to me. I heard that their food is good. I have never eaten there before and I will not go there again.
June 16 · ying luThe food is pretty good. I have been there a few times and always look at the receptionist's face. In a good mood. The attitude is OK. Bad mood. I'm here to eat. Do you still want to look at her face?
October 15 · Mei ZhangThe front desk is really not good. The food is really good. The buns are delicious. I will buy them again after buying them once.
February 12 · YingTing liI bought some steamed buns and soy milk. The steamed buns were average. The soy milk must have been bought outside and then mixed with boiled water at home. It didn't taste like boiled water at all. It was such a rip-off.
September 28 · H ZVery unpalatable. The fried buns I bought were extremely small and there was nothing inside. The small bamboo shoot buns were all skin. The price was a bit expensive. Not recommended.
