August 16 · May Li—Good Food, But a Horrible Experience—I don’t usually write long reviews, but our visit to Wan Da left such a poor impression that it felt necessary to share. While the food itself was good, nearly everything else about the experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and — frankly — concerning from a health and service standpoint.—Ordering Process: Confusing and Exclusionary—To place an order, you’re expected to grab a menu and physically walk to the back of the restaurant. No signage, no staff guidance — you’re just supposed to know.The front of the menu has English and Chinese translations, but the back (where you customize your bowl with toppings, soup base, and spice level) is entirely in Chinese with no translation.If you can’t read Chinese — you’re out of luck.For reference, our group included mainland Chinese who spoke Fujianese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Taisanese fluently — and even we found the process unwelcoming and needlessly complicated.— Sanitary Concerns: —This is where things go from frustrating to dangerous.Raw ingredients are displayed in a Chipotle-style counter, but with no sneeze guard or cover whatsoever.This leaves the food completely exposed to coughing, sneezing, dust, and even splashes from cleaning.According to NYC Health Code Section 81.07(a)(2), food must be “protected from contamination during display and service.” The setup here clearly violates that standard.Considering this place serves raw meat, seafood, and fresh vegetables, the risk of contamination is real and unacceptable.—Environment & Service: Loud, Disorganized, and Indifferent—Wan Da features an open kitchen concept — which could be great in theory, but in practice:We heard cooks shouting randomly, coughing, and having loud, unrelated conversations while handling food.There’s no tipping here, which might explain why the staff seemed to have zero incentive to care.We had to call the staff five separate times just to get basic assistance. For example, we wanted a soup spoon, instead of a takeout spoon for our soups. Instead, we were told to grab it ourselves at the BACK of the restaurant. No one greeted us or explained the ordering process.Once seated, we waited awkwardly for someone to take our order, only to realize much later that we had to get up and go to the back ourselves. As a reference, we came during off-peak hours, with only 3 other tables seated.—Final Thoughts—Yes, the food was good. But the overall experience was so poor that we have no interest in returning.If you don’t speak Fujianese, skip this location entirely.The hygiene concerns, language barriers, poor communication, and complete lack of hospitality made for one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in Brooklyn — and that’s saying something.Hopefully, management will take steps to address these serious issues before they lead to health violations or a further drop in customer trust.

I was clearly waiting in line, yet others were taken before me without explanation. When I spoke up about it, no one even bothered to apologize — not a word. The lack of basic respect and customer care was shocking. I will not be coming back, and I would not recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated fairly.
