Angelo's Coal Oven Pizzeria Introduce
In the bustling heart of Midtown, where new restaurants appear almost daily, a true classic stands the test of time by staying true to its roots. Angelo's Coal Oven Pizzeria is one such establishment, a New York institution that has mastered the art of traditional pizza. Stepping into Angelo's is a step back in time, where the focus is on straightforward, honest food made with care. Unlike many pizzerias, Angelo's utilizes a coal-fired oven, a method that is a signature of authentic, old-school New York and New Haven-style pizza. This high-temperature cooking process, which reaches temperatures of up to 900°F or more, imparts a unique flavor and a perfectly crisp, charred crust that is simply unforgettable.
More than just a pizza place, Angelo's is a full-service Italian restaurant that offers a wide-ranging menu of classic dishes. While the coal-fired pies are the undeniable star, the kitchen also turns out delicious appetizers, homemade pastas, and a selection of classic Italian main courses. This makes Angelo's a perfect destination for any occasion, whether you're craving a simple, perfect pizza or a comforting, multi-course Italian meal. The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and trendy, providing a welcoming space for groups, tourists, and solo diners alike. It’s the kind of place where you can feel comfortable, relax, and enjoy a fantastic meal without feeling rushed, even with its reputation for fast and efficient service.
The honest and straightforward approach to food is a major part of the restaurant's charm. As noted by real customers, the dishes taste like something "mom would cook," a testament to the comforting and authentic nature of the cuisine. From the perfectly balanced Caesar salad to the delicious pasta Vongole, every dish is crafted with fresh ingredients and a dedication to classic flavors. The commitment to quality and tradition is evident in every bite, solidifying Angelo's reputation as a reliable and beloved destination for authentic Italian food in the city.
Angelo's Coal Oven Pizzeria is centrally located at 117 W 57th St, New York, NY 10019, USA. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is real coal oven-baked pizza. Just like its name, the food here is straightforward and honest. The pizza is all about the basics, yet it delivers far beyond expectations — the dough is absolutely delicious. The Caesar salad has a good balance with fresh romaine and a classic dressing. And the Vongole pasta tastes like something mom would cook for kids at home.
August 05 · Eui Sun ChungAngelo’s makes one of the best coal-fired pies in NYC. The crust is crisp with a nice char, the sauce is fresh and tangy, and the mozzarella melts perfectly. I had the meatball pizza—the slices of meatball were flavorful without overpowering, and the basil added the perfect touch. Classic New York vibe, great service, and a pizza I’d absolutely come back for.
September 05 · Mike BaughI don't feel great about leaving bad reviews but this is my honest opinion with hopes that it'll improve. We arrived around 12:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon. We were immediately greeted and seated. We had a male server, I wish I knew his name because he is the only reason for my 2 star review. We get our waters but had to ask for ice because the water tasted luke warm. We ordered the pie and a Caesar salad. The order taking felt somewhat rushed and from the start of our interaction with server, I didn't feel like we were welcomed there. The pizza arrives. It's delicious, ingredients taste like great quality, the tomatoes taste fresh and tangy just how I like it, and the crust is outstanding. I can eat that crust all day. We were halfway through the pizza after we realized that our server didn't come once to check on us. I turned around at least 4 times to try to get his attention but he didn't look once. I wanted sauce for my bread. The Caesar salad was a sleight. The dressing had a mayo like taste and the croutons were soggy.I finally had to just keep my back turned until I got his attention. When he came over I said can I have a side of sauce (while pointing directly at the pizza sauce). He says what do you mean? While saying this he had a very irritated look and looked at me like I was stupid, it immediately made me feel uncomfortable. I said "like a side of sauce to dip the bread." He said "like what? Like marinara?" Again with an annoyed look. I said "sure a side of marinara, but I wanted the pizza sauce." I say this because a lot of places use one sauce for pizza and another for mozzarella sticks so I wanted to be clear. He then says "what size?" I said "just a small side for like dipping." Again says, "what size?" I was immediately irritated because I didn't think it was that hard to understand what I was asking for. He then says "2.00." At this point I was so annoyed I say, "forget it." My boyfriend then says "yeah you can bring it." He leaves.About 15 minutes go by and not only did he never come back with my sauce, he never came back to check on us. At one point a sweet server named Linda did come by and asked if we were okay. First seeing her but we never saw our serve again. It almost self like he was purposely ignoring us since I witnessed him check on other tables.Linda cane around to bring us our check. The experience left me feeling uneasy and uncomfortable and wondering why this server was so rude and avoiding us. I felt singled out and I hate to be that customer but the only difference between us and every other customer in there is that I am Hispanic, my boyfriend is black and the rest of the customers were white. The place is nice and would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the experience. The pizza is outstanding. However, the way this server made me feel is an experience I've never felt and for that I'll never be back or Recommend the place.
June 22 · Angelica Montalvo [Diversity & Affirmative Action]We tried the fettuccine Alfredo and the old fashioned pizza. The pasta was clearly from a box, which was a bit of a letdown, though the sauce and chicken were decent enough to make it passable. The pizza, on the other hand, was the highlight—great crust with that perfect coal oven crisp, while the sauce and toppings were just okay, nothing that really stood out. The vibe of the place was warm and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive, though it was a little annoying that drink refills only came if you asked for them. Overall, it felt like a solid neighborhood spot—good for a casual meal, especially if you’re craving pizza.
April 08 · MassimoSimply the best 👌 I've had pizza 🍕 here several times and always enjoyed the real new york pizza taste. I've also always recommended Angelo's Pizza to many family/friends and clients. Enjoy this local pizza restaurant my friends.
