When you visit a local New York bagel shop, you are looking for that specific balance of authentic taste, local feel, and quick service. At AR Hot Bagels, the main draw is undoubtedly the freshness of the product. The assurance that the bagels are "baked fresh everyday, never frozen" is a huge plus in a city where bagel quality is a source of local pride.
The specialty spreads, particularly the Lox Spread, and the option to buy it by the half-pound, are great indicators of a shop taking its New York heritage seriously. The Lox Spread, available at $9.25 for a half-pound tub, is a practical and delicious choice for a crowd or for stocking your own fridge with a local treat.
For a customized, hearty breakfast, the Hot Bagels Special Sandwiches are worth exploring. The Healthy Choice ($8.50) is a well-priced, protein-packed option for a lighter but satisfying start, featuring quality Boar’s Head Turkey. However, customers should be aware of certain service policies, such as the practice of starting egg sandwiches with only one egg and charging an extra fee for a second egg, which can quickly increase the cost of a simple breakfast. It is wise to confirm the price of extra additions before ordering.
Additionally, while convenience services like card payments are expected in New York, a noted customer experience suggests that the shop enforces a card minimum, reportedly around $10.00. While card minimums are a common reality for many small cash-heavy businesses in the city, New Yorkers accustomed to paying for small orders with a card should be prepared to spend at least this amount or have cash available to avoid issues. Given that a bagel with spread costs significantly less than the minimum, planning to purchase a dozen bagels, multiple sandwiches, or a New Bagel Special ($25.99) would be a good strategy to meet this threshold.
In summary, AR Hot Bagels provides a vital service to the Red Hook neighborhood with its core offering of fresh, classic New York bagels. It’s the perfect place for a quick, authentic breakfast or lunch stop, offering the convenience of takeout and delivery right in the heart of Brooklyn. The choice to make is simple: a fresh bagel and a coffee to go, to power your day the Brooklyn way.
The location’s emphasis on quick preparation and accessibility, including the wheelchair accessible entrance, makes it a valuable and convenient resource for the local Red Hook community. Plan your visit for the best experience, and don't miss out on their fresh-baked goods and specialty sandwiches.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1As much as I like to eat here for the price I just realized yesterday how much they get over people. Long story short if you get a egg sandwich they only use 1 egg and if you want 2 egg like you normally get in a sandwich its a extra 1.25 to 1.75. Your 6$ bagel becomes 7.5 easy. Not cool
August 31 · Anthony RiveraI’ve been going there for about three years and I’ve never really had great service there I go there for the convenience but I’m no longer going back there. They made a small mistake by putting butter on my bagel and I told them specifically no butter just lite cream cheese it wasn’t for me it was for someone else who can’t have butter being it was the last bagel there I told her forget it and bought my sandwich along with a juice my total came out to 9.25 and she didn’t allow me to use my card cus it’s a $10 mim so I told her well I guys messed up my order so I mean that’s not necessarily my fault and she was like well u have to get something else she didn’t even feel bad and let it slide. As I should’ve just left and not took anything I asked for a chocolate that was 50cents and she charged me a full 10$. Just overall very rude I’m not going back EVer!!
August 21 · Jo LinBagel was just okay, didn’t taste super fresh. Coffee was good.
November 08 · L. RochaI had two eggs home fries sausage patties and toast with coffee. Overall the breakfast was good not great. I ate the breakfast there in the shop was very busy during my stay.
September 27 · Tom DavenportIt saddens me to write this because I actually love this place. I was pumped to have a bagel & cream cheese from here. I no longer live in the neighborhood but always go if I’m near by. This is essentially what I came home to. See image. I never said light cream cheese. So not sure what happened, but this is a first.
