Ba Xuyên Introduce
Ba Xuyên, nestled in the vibrant Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, is widely celebrated by New Yorkers and food critics alike as a premier destination for authentic and incredibly affordable Vietnamese cuisine. Primarily known as a sandwich shop, its specialty is the revered Banh Mi, the Vietnamese baguette sandwich that perfectly balances savory meats, crunchy pickled vegetables, and fresh herbs. This no-frills storefront delivers a powerful and genuine taste of Vietnam, prioritizing flavor and freshness over high-end decor.
The core of Ba Xuyên’s appeal lies in its dedication to quality and value. At a consistently low price point—with most Banh Mi options priced around $5.00—it offers one of the most cost-effective and filling meals in the city. The commitment to fresh ingredients is evident in every sandwich, which is generously prepared with cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon (known as do chua), cilantro, and green pepper. The classic sandwich, Banh Mi Pate Thit Nguoi (Pate and Cold Cuts), is highly recommended, featuring a delicious spread of Vietnamese pâté and mixed cold cuts, all served on a perfectly crisp and airy Vietnamese baguette.
The menu extends well beyond sandwiches, confirming its identity as a full Vietnamese restaurant. Patrons can explore traditional Vietnamese meat preparations like Thit Nguoi Va Cha (Cold Meats and Pork Roll), which includes items like Gio Thu (Head Cheese) and different types of Cha (Pork Roll), which are the essential fillings of the famous sandwiches. For a complete meal, the Com Hop (Lunch Box) options, such as Com Ga Nuong Xa (Lemongrass Grilled Chicken with Rice), offer hearty portions with white rice, perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner.
However, what truly elevates Ba Xuyên’s status are its signature beverages and snacks. The Sinh To (Fruit Shakes), particularly the Sinh To Bo (Avocado Shake), receive universal praise for being rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced—not overly sweet. These shakes, along with exotic options like Sinh To Sau Rieng (Durian Shake) and Sinh To Mit (Jackfruit Shake), are seen as the ideal complement to the savory sandwiches. Additionally, the shop offers an impressive variety of Tran Chau (Pearl Cold Drinks), including various milk teas and coffee-based options, as well as a selection of house-made Vietnamese snacks, desserts, and cookies.
Ba Xuyên is conveniently located at 4222 8th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11232, USA. This address places it squarely in the heart of Sunset Park's thriving Vietnamese and Asian community, making it a cultural and culinary hotspot for those seeking authentic regional food.
The location is highly accessible via public transportation, being a short walk from the N Subway line at the 8th Avenue stop. Ba Xuyên is unequivocally worth choosing for any New Yorker seeking the finest, most authentic, and most affordable Banh Mi sandwich experience available in the city. The core offering—the signature Banh Mi, with its blend of savory cold cuts, rich pâté, and perfectly pickled vegetables nestled in a crisp baguette—is a culinary benchmark in the NYC food scene. Customers consistently rave about the freshness and the incredible value, often stating it is the "Most amazing and affordable banh mi I have had in the city."
However, the experience is incomplete without pairing a sandwich with one of their famous Sinh To (Fruit Shakes). The Avocado and Papaya shakes, in particular, are frequently cited as the perfect, creamy, and refreshing accompaniment, demonstrating the shop's mastery over both savory and sweet Vietnamese street food. The fact that the shop serves as a hub for other traditional Vietnamese snacks and desserts only adds to its unique charm, inviting patrons to explore a broader spectrum of the cuisine.
Crucially, the Cash-Only policy, while requiring a small pre-visit planning step, is directly tied to the establishment's ability to keep its prices remarkably low. For those willing to bring cash, Ba Xuyên offers a high-quality, filling meal that feels like an authentic slice of Vietnam right here in Brooklyn. Whether you are looking for a quick, delicious breakfast, a satisfying lunch on the go, or are simply curious to try a local specialty championed by true food enthusiasts, Ba Xuyên is a non-negotiable must-visit destination in the New York metropolitan area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Went here specifically to try the avocado shake and omg it was so good, creamy and not too sweet. It was reasonably priced at $6, just be aware that this place is cash only. I’d drive back to this area just for the sake! And the staff was really friendly! Would love to come back and try more.
July 13 · K. M.Most amazing and affordable banh mi I have had in the city!! So fresh and filling. I also recommend getting their shakes!! I got the papaya & it was the perfect touch for my meal. They also sale an array of Viet snacks and deserts :) Also make sure to bring cash as they are cash only
September 05 · Mariel CamargoNo frills Vietnamese sandwich and light take-out spot, but don’t let that stop you from trying it out. This place is truly a gem. I go 45 mins out of my way for the Bánh bèo here and am happy to do so. Really feels like a place you’d find in Westminster or sgv
May 27 · Dan SService was fast and there wasn’t a lot of people when I went so there was a lot of space. I order the grilled pork banh mi for 8 dollars which is very reasonable considering the size and flavors. The bread (assuming baguette) is nice and crispy exterior with a chewy interior. But it starts to cut the side of your mouth and makes it dry. The fillings flavors were very harmonized and well balanced but to have all of them together you gotta take a big bite because the meat is all the way inside while cilantro is in the outer layer. The flavors are very rich and have that sweet and sour taste in the sauce for the meat. Meat is also tender and is given in a fair amount. The vegetables are very fresh and the pepper gives it that extra spice which brings everything together. I believe the vegetables like cucumber may be pickled because the overall flavors are complex and deep. Closing statement: Bringing your own drink can help quench the dryness that the bread will give you.
January 31 · Paul HanSmall cash only banh mi shop that offers other vietnamese snacks and appetizers. Cold cut sandwich (#1) was authentic, had a nice balance of veggies + meat and vietnamese coffee was also noteworthy. For the food price and quality, it was worth the visit and deserves a comparison to Thanh Da next time im in the neighborhood.
