What is worth choosing
For the discerning New Jersey foodie, Bivio Pizza Napoletana is worth choosing primarily for its unwavering dedication to quality, authenticity, and the highly desirable intimate dining atmosphere it provides in Montclair. It offers an experience that transcends the standard neighborhood pizza joint.
The core attraction is, without a doubt, the Pizze. Diners should focus on the classic offerings to appreciate the quality of the wood-fired execution. The Margherita is a true test of a Neapolitan kitchen, and Bivio consistently delivers a pie where the simple, high-quality ingredients shine. For those seeking something unique, options like the Porcini or the Filetto (with its thin slices of tomato) provide excellent variation while maintaining the light, authentic crust structure. The delicate air bubbles and light char are the signature elements that make the pizza taste "very different" and prevent the feeling of being "overeaten."
Beyond the main course, the entire Italian experience is highly recommended. Starting with the Antipasto / Insalata options is advised, as noted by local customers who found the delicious fried appetizer to be a perfect small plate to hold them over while the main pies were being crafted. Service is attentive, and even though food preparation can take approximately 30-35 minutes—a testament to the meticulous, individual crafting of each pie—the experience is managed well by the sweet and accommodating servers.
Don't skip the conclusion to your meal. The dessert and coffee menu, featuring Espresso, Cappuccino, and a rich Chocolate Mousse (often a dessert special), provides a perfect, authentic Italian ending. The desserts are praised for being "rich and thick," providing a final, satisfying flourish to the dining experience. While the restaurant is a "fancy pizza spot," with prices expected for the Montclair area, the value is in the highly authentic food and the cozy, hard-to-find atmosphere. The combination of mandatory reservations, an intimate space, high-quality small plates, and pizza described as "both fire" makes Bivio Pizza Napoletana a premier, must-visit culinary gem for North Jersey residents looking for genuine Neapolitan craftsmanship.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is super cute and serves delicious brick oven pizza. Staff is friendly and attentive, bring your own wine vibe, intimate and small, very busy, but for a good reason. We had the margarita and special which was a sweet fig type of pie. Both fire. Food took about 35 min to come out. But the delicious fried peace appetizer held us over which can rout very quickly. We topped off with a chocolate moose which was rich and thick. Prices are what you would expect for the area, and fancy pizza spot. Was about $90 for the meal. We would definitely come back. Not sure if reservations are required but highly encouraged. No shot you're getting a table if you waltz in on a Friday or Saturday night.
August 17 · David BielskiExcellent wood fired pizza made with a lot of art and diligence. The pizza taste is very different from what you get in a normal pizza shop. The toppings are subtle and the pizza is light and you are never left feeling that you’ve overeaten. The air bubbles and the wooden char on the pizza give it a very authentic flavor. The servers were very sweet and accommodating! The dessert of the day was also excellent.Highly recommend!
May 23 · Sabarish GopalakrishnanGO! The best pizza we’ve had, period 🍕 We’ve had pretty much all of the well-known neoplitan pizza establishments in NY including the ones by celebrity chefs, and Bivio beats them! Pizzas were the perfect balance of crunchy and chewy, with fresh ingredients.Sit at the corner two seats at the bar and watch them assemble your pizza from a ball of sour dough afresh.Vibes are intimate date night but also very welcoming and approachable. Also, don’t sleep on appetizers. We were surprised by how elevated your common Italian appetizers were, especially for a small establishment!
June 21 · Steph RLong overdue for this review. This is the best gourmet pizza I have ever had and one of the best overall pizzas in North Jersey (the pizza capital of the world, might I add). The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect for an upscale pizza restaurant - clean and cozy with tables and counter seating; tasteful decorations and the brick oven adds to the charm. For an appetizer, I had the artichoke hearts and broccoli rabe - the absolute best I have had of either. Didn’t need a knife to cut any of it. The combinations of spices and a dab of olive oil made this dish an instant favorite. The pizza is handmade and cooked slowly to perfection. Every few minutes it’s rotated and check on. I had no doubts the crust would not be brunt the way they care for m it. And the two owners make everything and are willing to engage in conversation while they are working. The flavors, the spices, the oil, the cheese, the sauce,… everything is absolutely fantastic and freshly made. It’s clear the owners are passionate about their creations and want others to enjoy it.I came from close to an hour and a half to check this place out, a recommendation of a co-worker… all the way from Southern Ocean County. It was well worth the drive and I will be there more frequently. Hoping to eat everything off the menu by the end of the year. Thanks again!!
July 16 · Anthony MassaIt's by reservation. Must plan gets full quick.Love the ambient!! It's cozy with big energy. And omaiga ... the food ... Delicious as a word does not suffice. A symphony of flavors, every dish is its own art.My favorite appetizer is the artichoke and broccoli rabe. It has great flavors that meld together so gracefully. Favorite pizza is their Bianca with garlic magic.
June 11 · Sujey RomanThere are no words for how much we love Bivio. The pizzas are as good if not better than any you will find in Italy: perfect chewy crusts, just the right amount of char, sensational toppings of the highest quality. And they are made with extreme love. The folks who own this place and their entire crew are delightful. The menu is short but it’s long on flavor. And yes to the previous reviewer who said that the two seats at the wall end of the bar are the best place to sit. That’s definitely the pro move here, as you get to stare over your Chianti bottle to the magic being made in front of you. Those who know, know…
