I would of given a negative star if it was an option. The repass of my uncle was held here. It wasn't a pleasant experience at all. My sister who arranged everything with the owner was a bit taken back with the lack of professionalism, let alone empathy when we arrived. We came from out of town to mourn with family and friends at this establishment due to it being Haitian owned but there's always a first time and a last time to everything. And this is the last time that we will support this business.I would suggest the owner and staff take a course in leadership, etiquette and customer service because this is not it. - JESSYCA ROMAN

Brasserie Creole Introduce

Introduction / Overview

Brasserie Creole stands as a significant, Haitian-owned establishment in the Cambria Heights neighborhood of Queens, offering a specialized taste of authentic Caribbean culture and cuisine to the New York region. The restaurant is renowned for its classic Haitian dishes, showcasing traditional staples like Du Riz Djon Djon (Haitian black rice) and savory Grillot (fried pork). Patrons are invited to experience these bold, savory, and traditionally-prepared flavors, often within a warm and lively atmosphere that includes space for live music and socializing.

The venue frequently operates as a community gathering space, particularly for culturally significant events such as a repass. For New Yorkers of Haitian descent, a repass is a vital tradition—a less formal gathering of family and friends held after a funeral to eat, drink, and mourn together. Choosing a Haitian-owned establishment for such a critical event is a choice rooted in cultural pride and convenience.

However, local users must be acutely aware of severe and consistent feedback regarding the restaurant’s service and organizational management, particularly for events. Reviews detailing the handling of a repass event highlight a concerning lack of professionalism and empathy from staff and the owner. Specific complaints include the absence of a proper welcome or assistance for guests, a lack of organization in food serving (such as minimal portions and unannounced buffet access), and a stunning lack of essential service elements, such as a closed bar with no bartender for a critical function. Furthermore, the reports of a confrontational attitude from the owner and unprofessional behavior from staff are significant deterrents.

In summary, Brasserie Creole is a dual-natured venue: it is a beacon of authentic Haitian flavor and a proud cultural institution, but its operational shortcomings and highly criticized customer service management make it a choice that requires cautious consideration, especially when planning a sensitive or large event.

Location and Accessibility

Brasserie Creole is strategically located at 227-02 Linden Blvd in Cambria Heights, Queens. This key location is easily identifiable on a major artery of Southeast Queens, making it a visible and convenient spot for local residents and visitors traveling to the area.

The address provides:

  • Ease of Access by Car: Situated on Linden Boulevard, the restaurant is simple to navigate to by vehicle, though patrons should anticipate typical New York City street parking availability.
  • Public Transit Connectivity: The boulevard is well-serviced by local MTA bus routes, providing essential public transportation access for users throughout Queens.
  • Neighborhood Convenience: The location anchors it firmly within the Cambria Heights community, serving as a known and reliable gathering place for local dining and events.

The restaurant is known for accommodating extensive hours, with typical operations running from late morning to late evening, generally 9:00 AM or 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM or later, ensuring it is available for meals throughout the day and into the night.

  • Quick Bites/Small Plates: The menu is structured to offer options suitable for quick meals, small plates, and appetizers, though the organization of service for these items during events is questionable.

What is worth choosing

Choosing Brasserie Creole is a decision based almost entirely on the desire for high-quality, authentic Haitian cuisine, a feature that shines despite significant and critical service flaws. For local users, the choice is strategic: maximize the food experience while minimizing reliance on their operational service.

The primary recommendation is to choose the Food First. The traditional Haitian dishes are the reason to visit. Focus on ordering signature items like the Du Riz Djon Djon and Grillot, which embody the restaurant's culinary strengths. Sampling the Soup Joumou if available, is also a highly authentic choice, as this soup holds a deeply special significance in Haitian culture.

For General Dining:

  • Opt for Takeout or Delivery whenever possible. Given the numerous reports of inattentive staff and lack of basic service (water, napkins) during dine-in, enjoying the excellent food at home is the most reliable way to guarantee a positive experience.
  • If dining in, visit during a known Live Music Event, as the enhanced atmosphere may offset the service frustrations.

For Event Planning (such as a Repass):

  • Exercise Extreme Caution and Due Diligence. If supporting a Haitian-owned business for a cultural event is critical, prospective organizers must demand a detailed, written contract outlining every service element. Specifically, this must include dedicated staff numbers, clear bar/beverage service availability, guaranteed food portions, and a designated, private area to prevent interference from other patrons.
  • Alternatively, consider using Brasserie Creole for Catering Only. This allows the organizer to benefit from the highly-praised food while utilizing a different, independently-managed venue or personal home for the gathering, thereby ensuring a respectful and well-organized service environment for a sensitive occasion.

Ultimately, Brasserie Creole is a key destination for authentic Haitian flavor in Queens. New Yorkers should approach it as a culinary adventure, recognizing that the best reward lies in the kitchen, not necessarily in the front-of-house service.
