A little French gem in New York City's fashion District.Coffee is very good but it's the pastries that you would come for and they are excellent. "Baked with generosity" could be their tagline. Take their almond croissant, it's l well sized, has ample filling and is stopped with an abundant amount of toasted and sliced almonds. Far too many of the commercially baked almond croissant have a smattering the filling and a few almond slices on top to indicate what it is rather than to add flavor. Prices are a bit steep to match their quality, even for New York but worth a try.A small and perhaps silly peeve: I understand there are a number of these now in New York but I find the name a bit incongruous, especially where you would expect to have an international clientele. In other words, one could be forgiven for expecting a little of the feel of Avignon . But apart from serving French pastries, there is very little about the place that reflects its French namesake. - D G (ConsumerGuru)

Cafe d’Avignon @ Moxy NYC Chelsea Introduce

In a city that thrives on diversity and unique experiences, the coffee shop scene is no exception. While many local spots focus on the minimalist, third-wave coffee trend, others offer a delightful escape to a different world. Cafe d’Avignon @ Moxy NYC Chelsea is one such place, a charming and chic coffee shop that brings a piece of Parisian boulangerie culture right to the heart of New York City's Flower District. This spot is more than just a place to grab your morning caffeine fix; it's a destination for anyone who appreciates the art of French baking and a genuinely great cup of coffee.

The moment you step into Cafe d’Avignon, you are greeted by an inviting, casual atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and savor the moment. The space, with its stylish design and light-filled setting, provides a welcome contrast to the bustling streets outside. It's the perfect place for a quick break, a casual lunch, or a moment of solo reflection. The coffee shop’s partnership with the Moxy Hotel elevates the experience, offering a unique and sophisticated environment that is both a hotel amenity and a local favorite. This blend of accessibility and upscale feel makes it a truly special place for New Yorkers seeking a high-quality coffee and pastry experience.

What truly sets Cafe d’Avignon apart is its dedication to exceptional pastries. The bakery operates with a philosophy of generosity, and it’s evident in every item. The almond croissants, for example, are a work of art—well-sized, filled with ample almond cream, and topped with a generous amount of toasted almonds. This attention to detail and refusal to skimp on ingredients is a refreshing change from many commercial bakeries and is a key reason why customers rave about their baked goods. It’s a genuine taste of France, meticulously crafted for a discerning New York clientele.

The menu extends beyond pastries to include a variety of light fare perfect for lunch. You can find delicious sandwiches on fresh-baked bread, tartines, and a selection of salads and quiches. This makes it a great spot for a quick, high-quality midday meal that feels more special than your average fast-food joint. The offerings are a thoughtful blend of French authenticity and American classics, creating a menu that is both familiar and exciting. It's the kind of place where you can grab a quick bite that is also a satisfying and delicious experience.

While the bakery and food are the main draw for many, the coffee itself lives up to the high standards of a New York coffee shop. Cafe d’Avignon proudly serves Stumptown coffee, a well-regarded roaster known for its high-quality, flavorful beans. Whether you prefer a classic espresso, a creamy latte, or a robust cold brew, the coffee is expertly prepared and delicious. This commitment to both excellent coffee and outstanding food is what makes Cafe d’Avignon a welcome addition to the neighborhood and a must-visit spot for anyone in Chelsea.

The ambiance is relaxed and friendly, making it a great place for a casual meet-up or for a moment of quiet work. The decor, while not overtly French in a theatrical way, maintains a chic and tasteful vibe that complements the Moxy Hotel’s modern aesthetic. It is a small and simple place, but its focus on quality and welcoming atmosphere makes a big impression. It's a testament to the idea that a great coffee shop doesn’t need elaborate themes to be memorable—it just needs to serve great food and coffee.

For those living or working nearby, Cafe d’Avignon has become a cherished part of their daily routine. The ability to pop in for an amazing pastry or a perfectly brewed coffee makes it an essential part of the neighborhood’s fabric. The slightly higher prices are justified by the superior quality of the ingredients and the generosity of the portions, making it a worthwhile treat that feels both indulgent and satisfying. It’s a place that adds a touch of simple luxury to a busy day.

In conclusion, Cafe d’Avignon @ Moxy NYC Chelsea is a special place that offers more than just the basics.
