Chris and Sons Roti Shop and Bakery Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a genuine taste of the Caribbean, particularly the vibrant flavors of Trinidadian cuisine, Chris and Sons Roti Shop and Bakery is a premier destination located right here in Jamaica, Queens. This establishment is more than just a restaurant; it’s a cultural culinary hub celebrated for serving traditional, unprocessed Caribbean hot food across all meals of the day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It has established itself as a must-visit spot for locals and visitors alike, drawing in a diverse crowd that includes families and tourists eager to experience authentic island cooking.
The restaurant’s reputation is built on its delicious and authentic offerings, which prominently feature the "local specialty"—the famous Doubles ($1.25) and Aloo Pie ($1.50). Customers consistently rave about the Doubles, praising the amazing flavor of the chickpea curry served between soft fried flatbreads. Beyond these popular appetizers, Chris and Sons shines as a Roti Shop, offering traditional Roti wraps filled with savory options like Curry Chicken Roti ($6.50) and hearty Stew Oxtail Roti ($10.50), available with your choice of Dhal Puri (split peas) or Paratha (plain) Roti.
What truly sets Chris and Sons Roti Shop and Bakery apart in the competitive New York food scene is its commitment to traditional Caribbean breakfast fare. Patrons love that they can start their day with authentic, hot food that is explicitly described as "nothing processed," offering a comforting and flavorful alternative to typical breakfast options. The menu extends well into the day with substantial Rice plates, including Curry Chicken with Rice ($6.50) and Curry Goat with Rice ($9.00), alongside daily and weekly specials like the flavorful BBQ Chicken with Vegetable Fried Rice ($8.00). The bakery side also offers delightful Caribbean desserts such as Currants Roll ($2.00) and Coconut Roll ($2.00).
Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback on food quality, with one customer even noting a highly appreciated "nice service" and "knowledge of what I was buying," it is important to note the occasional customer service challenge. One review mentioned an instance of perceived disrespect when attempting to modify an order. While this is not representative of all experiences, it highlights that, like many busy New York food spots, there can be times of high volume that test the staff’s capacity for patience and politeness. However, the consistent high praise for the authentic food, particularly the quality of the doubles, curry chicken, and traditional drinks like the Trinidadian Solo sodas, indicates that the culinary experience remains the primary and compelling reason for the crowds.

July 29 · Joseangel ClaussellMy mom went here by herself and left feeling sad and confused about how she was treated. She ordered her food and then asked to add stew chicken. Instead of simply explaining, the lady behind the counter yelled at her for not saying it earlier and then made her wait while serving other customers. My mom is such a kind person and didn’t deserve that kind of treatment. Customers should be spoken to with respect and patience.
September 26 · KeithThis spot got the best doubles, aloe pie and their yuca cake which is also called pone is good. September 22 · Boss DonI called to order food this morning since my aunt just passed. It was going to be a big order. The man that answered said i could order it and they can get the food delivered. He put me on to an a lady that was rude. She confirmed she could get it delivered then after i called back to confirm the order, she says "Call me back when you know what you doing and you get your own cab"!!!! Then she hangs up on me. I hope the owner addresses this with her. I went to another Roti Shop nearby that was extremely understanding, patient and gave them 5 stars. So sad to be treated this way.
July 22 · Debbie PrasadLiving in Nassau makes it challenging to find great Caribbean food. I found “Chris & Sons” online and they did not disappoint. I bought curry chicken & curry duck with buss-up roti Friday evening; and best believe that I was there again on Saturday morning for their bake and shark, and bake and salt-fish.Everything from their savory meals to desserts were fresh out the kitchen and infused with authentic Caribbean flavors. The teamwork displayed by the staff is the icing on the cake. The wonderfully women serving in the front are always in uplifting spirits and they take their time with every meal.
