My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience at The Colonial Diner! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We ordered the Irish Eggs Benedict, which was absolutely out of this world — perfectly cooked egg-whites, rich hollandaise, and the flavors were spot-on. The blueberry pancakes were also a standout: incredibly fluffy with a natural, rich blueberry flavor that didn’t taste artificial at all.Our server (we wish we could remember her name!) was incredibly sweet, attentive, and made us feel right at home without being overbearing. The service alone would bring us back, but the food sealed the deal. We’ll definitely be returning — The Colonial Diner has officially become one of our favorite breakfast spots. Highly recommend! - Kayle

Colonial Diner Introduce

The diner. For anyone who has grown up in the Garden State, the word conjures images of sparkling chrome, plush vinyl booths, endless coffee refills, and a menu that could double as a short novel. In New Jersey, the diner is not just a place to eat; it is a cultural institution, a hub of community life, and the quintessential American experience. Nestled in the heart of Bergen County, the Colonial Diner in Lyndhurst stands as a shining example of this beloved tradition, consistently offering a warm welcome and a colossal menu of comfort food favorites to locals and travelers alike.

Since its founding in 1950, The Colonial Diner, with its distinctive 1950s train car style and newly renovated retro feel, has captured the heart of the community. It’s the kind of place where a family can gather for a massive Sunday breakfast, a commuter can grab a quick bite off Route 3, or friends can meet for late-night food. Owned by the Gremanis Family since 1984, this establishment has earned its stripes, being recognized by publications like the Daily News and even featured in a National Geographic roundup of the American diner experience, solidifying its status as a must-visit New Jersey gem.

The atmosphere here is a major part of the appeal. It's simultaneously historic, with its classic Mountain View Dining Car Company construction, and cozy, thanks to its red-themed booths and long, spacious counter. Whether you're a college student grabbing a meal, a family out for dinner, a group celebrating, or simply dining solo, the Colonial Diner provides a friendly, casual, and welcoming environment for everyone.
