Diana International Introduce
Diana International Deli, situated on the bustling Kings Highway in Brooklyn, New York, serves as a vital community staple, particularly for those seeking authentic Eastern European delicacies. In a borough renowned for its culinary diversity and distinct neighborhood character, a deli specializing in a specific international cuisine offers a unique and essential service. It’s more than just a place to grab a quick bite; it acts as a connection point to traditional flavors and ingredients that can be hard to find elsewhere in the city. The primary type of establishment is a classic 'Deli,' which in the New York context usually implies a store offering prepared foods, sandwiches, and specialized grocery items, but with an international twist, it brings the flavors of Eastern Europe directly to the Brooklyn community.
Brooklyn has long been a melting pot of cultures, and Kings Highway is a key commercial artery reflecting this heritage. Diana International Deli positions itself perfectly within this environment, catering to residents who grew up with these flavors and to curious foodies looking to explore a different kind of cuisine. The provided customer feedback suggests its core offering is a good selection of homemade dishes, which is a hallmark of authentic, high-quality international delis. This focus on prepared, home-style meals—a common feature in Eastern European markets—means patrons can easily pick up classics like pelmeni (dumplings), borscht (beet soup), various types of sausages, and distinct Eastern European breads, as suggested by general industry knowledge. These items are perfect for busy New Yorkers who want a taste of home or a hearty, satisfying meal without the long prep time.
One of the most appealing aspects for any New Yorker is convenience, and Diana International Deli addresses this through its various service options, ensuring that whether you’re rushing on your lunch break or planning a family dinner, your needs can be met.
The deli environment, particularly one focused on international goods, often involves a high degree of specialization. For Eastern European delis, this generally means a rich selection of smoked meats, cured fish, imported chocolates and sweets, a variety of pickles (often a staple of the region), and specialty dairy products like smetana (a type of sour cream). These specific products are highly sought after by those familiar with the cuisine, making a specialized local business like Diana International Deli an invaluable resource in the Kings Highway area.

For New Yorkers—whether they are lifelong residents of Kings Highway or just passing through—Diana International Deli offers a culinary journey that goes beyond the standard American fare. The primary reason to choose this deli is its highly specific specialization in Eastern European food, which provides an array of flavors and products not commonly found in general supermarkets.
What makes it truly worthwhile is the focus on
homemade dishes
. In the Eastern European tradition, staples like savory dumplings (pierogi or pelmeni), rich, slow-cooked stews (Bigos or Goulash), and a variety of freshly made salads (such as Salad Olivier or vinaigrette) are the heart of the home kitchen. A deli that is highly reviewed for these home-style takeout options provides a genuine shortcut to a deeply satisfying, authentic meal. This is particularly valuable for New York families and individuals with busy schedules who still crave the flavors of their heritage or wish to introduce those flavors to their dinner table.Furthermore, a typical Eastern European market is the sole reliable source for certain grocery items. This includes distinct types of rye bread, specialized cured and smoked meats like Kabanosy or traditional sausages, imported dairy products like smetana or tvorog (cottage cheese), and the essential variety of pickled vegetables. For those preparing a traditional holiday or family feast, the deli is the only place to procure these specific, high-quality ingredients. The ability to use SNAP/EBT also broadens the community that can access these traditional and often more specialized foods.
It is important for prospective customers to also be aware of the highly contrasting customer feedback provided. While one review points to the 'Good choice of home made dishes,' another strongly advises caution regarding specific meat products and references filing a health complaint. This polarized information highlights a situation where customers should exercise their own judgment. While the deli's reputation for homemade dishes is a positive indicator, any consumer is always advised to be vigilant about food quality and freshness, especially when purchasing perishable goods. For the community, the continued existence of a specialized market like this is a benefit, but a cautious approach is always prudent when trying out new products or a new store's perishable counter. Ultimately, for a taste of authentic Eastern European home cooking in the Kings Highway neighborhood, Diana International Deli remains a notable local option.
The convenience of the location, paired with the takeout and delivery options, makes it a logical stop for a quick, culturally rich shopping experience. When seeking specialty ingredients or a truly home-cooked, ready-to-eat Eastern European meal in Brooklyn, Diana International Deli is a place worth considering, keeping in mind the need for due diligence on food freshness.

Diana International Reviews
Nice Eastern European deli and store. Good choice of home made dishes to take out.
January 28 · Jane CiubotaruStay away from this place! They sell spoiled meat products which may harm your health. They would deny that fact even though it smells rotten right after opening the vacuum cover and wouldn’t change or refund the product. And the way they treat the customers is beyond adequate people understanding. Filing a business complaint to both NY DOS and Health Department now, it’s just can’t be possible to poison and treat the customers the way they do.
