Esse Taco Introduce
In a city brimming with Mexican restaurants, Esse Taco in Brooklyn has quickly established itself as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a truly elevated taco experience. This isn't your average taqueria; it's a concept from the celebrated culinary team behind some of the world's most famous Mexican restaurants. While it offers a fast-casual, on-the-go vibe, the meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high-quality ingredients set it apart. The cornerstone of their menu is the handmade corn tortillas, which are a labor of love, made fresh daily from heirloom corn sourced from independent farmers in Oaxaca. This dedication to tradition and quality is what gives their tacos a depth of flavor that is truly unique.
Esse Taco has a vibrant, trendy atmosphere that perfectly fits its Williamsburg location. With large French doors that open up to the street, and music playing, it’s a lively spot to enjoy a meal. The interior is designed for a quick, casual experience, with stainless steel barrels serving as standing tables, encouraging a more communal and social vibe. The menu is focused and intentional, offering a handful of classic and creative fillings, from Ribeye Steak and Brisket "Suadero" to the innovative Shogun Maitake Mushroom Taco. While some long-time patrons may note a shift in the menu from a simple street taco stand to a more elevated concept, the quality remains a point of pride. The food, whether it’s a hearty breakfast burrito or a flavorful taco, is delicious and worth the visit. The fact that they sell everything from tacos to branded merchandise like a tote bag shows they've become a staple in the neighborhood.

It proudly identifies as a Latino-owned business and is explicitly an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space. This commitment to inclusivity, combined with a family-friendly atmosphere that is good for kids (even offering a changing table), makes it a rare and cherished find in the city. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1**New review***I’ve been a fan of this taco spot since the early days — the street taco, quick-and-go, Mexico stand-style vibe was what made it so special. I came out one week just for the mushroom taco, only to find they were sold out. No big deal, I made the long commute again the following week — but the recipe had completely changed. Now it’s a pricier version (almost $9 per taco), packed with fancy greens. Don’t get me wrong — it’s very tasty, but it feels like the whole concept shifted. I asked the guy in the kitchen what happened to the old mushroom taco, and he said this one is “higher quality.” Maybe so, but honestly, the people just want regular street tacos — affordable, simple, and packed with flavor. That’s what gave this place its magic.I’m not coming here to eat creative or upscale Mexican food — that was never the point. I came for the classic taco stand energy, and I just hope that essence doesn’t get lost.Old review***As a Mexican, this quesadilla is embarrassing. Total was ~$6 after tax.
July 23 · P LI finally visited Esse Taco after having it in my “places to eat” list for a while. It was absolutely worth it. we ordered the Ribeye, Al pastor and carne asada tacos. Every single taco was delicious. Highly recommend it! They also sell aguas frescas, which were great too and you can add a shot of tequila to feel the fiesta vibes! Can’t wait to come back!
July 13 · Rafa & LizLocated in Brooklyn, this taco joint is a casual spot with metallic standing tables for you to eat at. Definitely a quick bite kind of spot as there is no seating. You can order at the counter or a kiosk and your name is called once the tacos are ready.I got the sampler plate with the steak, chicken, pork, and mushroom tacos. After your name is called, there are also a variety of sauces and toppings you can grab to enjoy with your tacos. I'm not sure what it's called but the green sauce that I got was SO good with the tacos. My personal favorite was the pork one with the chicken being a close second. Loved all the toppings and it was amazing.
June 08 · Mia HuynhLove this quick service taco spot with very good options between the pork, beef and mushroom (chicken was skippable). Corn husk ice cream is tasty. Almost all standing room only.
May 08 · Rovik RobertThe tacos at Esse Taco are solid! I tried the steak and pork tacos, and both were delicious. The flavors really come alive with their sauces, so don’t skip those. I love the no-cashier, self-service setup—it’s quick and convenient. While tacos in Mexico are still the gold standard, these are definitely top-tier for New York. The place was clean, and the vibe was friendly, which made the experience even better. I’d rate my experience a 7.5/10, and I’m already planning to go back to try the corn husk!
