Gair Introduce
The DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn is famous worldwide for its spectacular waterfront views, historic architecture, and the iconic "cobblestoned runway" vista of the Manhattan Bridge. Amidst this bustling scene, Gair stands out as a sophisticated, community-focused bar and restaurant, offering an elevated retreat for New Yorkers and visitors alike. More than just a place to grab a drink, Gair is a carefully curated experience designed by local architect and owner Kevin Cimini, who envisioned a welcoming, contemporary hub that pays tribute to the neighborhood’s industrial past while serving up modern, high-quality hospitality.
Named after Robert Gair, the inventor of the pre-cut cardboard box and the magnate who built the warehouse space in the late 1800s—a structure famously known as Gair 1 and once the tallest reinforced concrete building in the country—the establishment’s design reflects a concept of “warm brutalism.” This style masterfully blends raw, tactile materials like cast fluted concrete, Brazilian basalt, plaster, and blackened steel with warm tones, natural leather, and soft curves to create an ambiance that is both chic and cozy. This attention to detail ensures an intimate and memorable visit, making Gair a premier destination for those seeking a distinctive experience in New York City.
Gair is strategically situated at 41 Washington St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA, placing it directly at the intersection of Washington and Water Streets. This is arguably one of New York City's most photographed corners, offering patrons a front-row seat to the constant, vibrant spectacle of DUMBO life, where tourists and locals converge. The location is easily accessible, a key factor for any Manhattan or outer-borough resident looking for a refined Brooklyn experience.
The bar is located up a half-flight of stairs, a subtle elevation that provides those unparalleled perched views of the street below, the surrounding architecture, and a slice of the Manhattan Bridge. For guests needing specific accommodations, Gair is wheelchair accessible, ensuring an inclusive experience for all members of the community. Its prime, central DUMBO location makes it a convenient spot for an after-work cocktail, a weekend date night, or a sophisticated stop during a day exploring the Brooklyn waterfront.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1What we had:- fried zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese- tuna poke- fair burgerSharing my thoughts:- the place is admittedly located in a very busy tourist attraction. This is both good and bad: Good because for being located in a tourist attraction site, the food could had been mediocre food for premium prices. But the food was actually pretty good. Which leads me to my second point;- bad because the food comes with the premium prices. It is very rare to come across a burger in the city that does not include fries with the burger. The burger itself is $22 and if you want fries then you are looking at an extra $6. That is my only reservation with the burger because the burger itself is good: a smash patty deluxe with a refreshing crisp balance of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.- The zucchini flowers were great. No complaints here. They were stuffed with a blend of cheeses and had a side of aoli which worked well together.- The tuna poke was ok. Nothing exceptional.- In terms of experience: The table service was dry. Our server was not friendly or attentive taking clients for granted. If you want tips, then put in the work.- in terms of the space, there are decent views of the Brooklyn bridge and the spectacle of the cobblestone street. The interior is nice but I have a bone to pick with the designer: the base of the concrete counter at the bar has fins that project out too much and I was constantly hitting my knee with it. It looks good but that aspect of it was not practically thought through.I enjoyed the meal, but all said I am not compelled to go back.

July 04 · Valentina RobayoWent with 0 expectations, and my jaw dropped at the first bite of that mighty artichoke-spinach dip. Crazy good. On the other hand, drinks are well crafted and tasty.
