First and foremost, the authenticity and flavor of the food are undeniable. Diners consistently return for the deeply seasoned, slow-cooked meals that embody the essence of Jamaican home cooking, from the spicy kick of Jerk Pork to the richness of Curried Goat. The "Reggae Fest Meals" provide a perfect introduction to these island classics, typically served with traditional sides like Rice and Peas.
While a few customer reviews have pointed to occasional inconsistencies in portion size, food freshness, or customer service demeanor—issues often faced by high-volume, quick-service establishments—the majority of feedback praises the taste of the food and the efforts of many staff members. The dedication to authentic recipes and the ability to consistently provide the flavor that customers crave are what keep locals coming back.
A primary reason for choosing Golden Krust, particularly from the "bakery" perspective, is the legendary Jamaican Patty and the associated baked goods. The patty is a perfect, inexpensive, and quick comfort food, and the combination of a savory patty tucked into a soft, buttery slice of Coco Bread is a must-try local experience. The availability of traditional Hard Dough Bread and sweet treats like Bun and Cheese or Rock Cake provides a unique offering not easily found in standard NYC bakeries.
Furthermore, choosing this location means supporting a Black-owned business deeply rooted in the local Bronx community. Its commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and offering a wide array of options—including excellent vegan and vegetarian dishes like the Tofu Vegetables and Spinach Patty—makes it a conscientious and universally appealing choice. Whether you need a quick, flavorful lunch, are picking up a dozen cocktail patties for a party, or want a comforting bowl of Cornmeal Porridge for breakfast, Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant is a reliable and flavorful choice in the heart of the Bronx.
The broad menu ensures there is something for every meal of the day and for every member of the family, from the heartiest soup to the most delicate dessert. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I just came from buying breakfast akee n Salish , my dumpling are spoiled and the fish is sooooo salty that I can’t enjoy them. I use to come for breakfast all the time and it be very good this time I don’t know what happen YUCK ,i will never be back, they have lost a customer smh
June 14 · Nashay ThomasThe lady cashier has anger issues. She speaks to customers very poorly . I have been visiting this place for almost a year now and been very observant of her. She needs to be enrolled into anger management class and some customer service training. You cannot be the first point of contact with such a poor demeanor. On the positive side the food tastes great and I haven't had issues with all the food I have bought over the period.
March 20 · Anthony Dour1st time eating these from the frozen aisle in H-E-B Houston, TX and there was a foreign object in this patty. It resembles rubber. 1st & last time eating Jamaican food. Now I know why people say Caribbean food is trash. Nasty.
September 09 · Ben ThomasReturned again on March 20, 2025. Ordered the black chicken, cabbage and mac&cheese. As usual I enjoyed my meal! The service was great by a gentleman who was upbeat, humorous and very polite!Returned October 4, 2024 for my after doctor treat since I lost some more weight. I got the BBQ Chicken and Oxtails both with the Calalou, Rice & beans, and plantains. LOVED IT!Returned on April 23, 2024. There was a new woman there who greeted me with a pleasant smile and demeanor. We chatted for awhile. She brightened my day. This time I took pictures before I ate the Jerk chicken and oxtails!I was there December 1, 2023 10 AM. Ordered the Jerk Chicken and Oxtails, both with collard greens and peas & rice to go.It was all good, seasoned well, the Oxtails fell of the bone and were tender. The Jerk chicken could have been spicier for me, but I enjoyed it.The young lady there was polite, asked me what I wanted and how I would like it. I was able to get my order quickly, but not rushed.I was living right because 2 minutes after crossing the street my bus came!I ate half of the Jerk Chicken for lunch and half of the Oxtails for dinner.Thank you for the good food and pleasant service. I truly appreciated it.Going back tomorrow and trying something different. I'll try to pause to take pics, but I can't promise anything.😆😂😉
March 29 · JoyceInconsistent,Service is decentFood is up and down. For example, they didn't bothering rendering any of the fat on the oxtails. So it's covered in fat and hard to remove from the bone. Normally when you're very hungry anything tastes good but I'm disappointed.Other days the food is decent but I will be trying other locations.
