What is Worth Choosing
For first-time diners or those looking for a guaranteed great meal at Hop Hing Chinese Kitchen, focusing on the restaurant’s strengths and popular, reliable dishes is the best strategy. The Special Combination Plates are hands-down the best value and a perfect introduction to the menu. These plates offer a main dish, an egg roll, and fried rice, providing a complete, fulfilling meal.
For a classic, safe bet among the Combination Plates, the Roast Pork Lo Mein or Chicken Chow Mein are excellent choices, embodying the essence of Chinese comfort food. The Pepper Steak combination plate, at a slightly higher price point, is a substantial and popular choice for beef lovers, known for its savory sauce and tender meat with onions. These combination meals are perfect for a quick, affordable, and satisfying lunch break in the Passaic area.
If you are ordering for a family gathering or a group and want to sample more complex flavors, exploring the Chef's Specialties is highly recommended. The Happy Family dish is a perennial favorite in Chinese cuisine, typically featuring a medley of chicken, beef, shrimp, and fresh vegetables in a light sauce, symbolizing harmony. Similarly, the Dragon and Phoenix specialty often pairs shrimp with General Tso’s chicken or another poultry dish, offering two distinct textures and flavors in one plate. Opting for these combination specialties gives you a taste of the kitchen’s more elaborate cooking, which is ideal for a satisfying dinner.
While one review specifically noted an issue with the General Tso’s Chicken and Szechuan Chicken, another, more positive review praised the overall cleanliness and proper cooking of the rice, suggesting that focusing on the Chow Mein, Lo Mein, and Chef’s Specialties may yield the most consistent and enjoyable experience. For New Jersey residents seeking a reliable, speedy, and classic Chinese takeout experience, Hop Hing Chinese Kitchen remains a staple in the Passaic community, ready to deliver satisfying comfort food right to your door.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolute worst General Tso’s chicken I ever ate. I mean, I had to write a review. No meat inside. Received tiny chunks of fried batter and small dried up pieces of meat. Never ordering here again. What a waste of money… It probably should have been a red flag when they said the food will be ready in 10 min… The Szechuan chicken was extremely rubbery as well. Ugh. 😑 Feel a little bamboozled.
September 10 · Justyna MalotaI’ve tried several other spots and by far this one’s the best. I’m a picky eater and if I see a dirty shrimp I’m done, I can’t eat it but thus far these people have been clean and their rice is cooked the right way!
June 25 · Karen S. SalibaI've been going here since they open, around 1985.I've since moved away to Wayne, but I still go for the food.Great food, pricing and potions. What more can you ask for.I'm adding the most current menu 03/2025.

April 24 · Urszula IrizarryI went here during the night and had to wait almost an hour for our food for it to be wrong after constantly repeating my order to them and then they add on by talking about me and my wife in front of us in Chinese thinking we do not know that language I felt totally disrespected and on top the food was not cooked fully and the rice was hard absolutely terrible experience will never eat here again!!!
