Hot Pot House(亨记花胶鸡火锅) Introduce
Introduction / Overview: Hot Pot House—Astoria’s Niche Comfort Food Spot
For residents of the New York area with a discerning palate for specialized Asian cuisine, Hot Pot House (亨记花胶鸡火锅) represents a dedicated entry into the Hot pot restaurant scene in Astoria, Queens. This establishment focuses on a unique and luxurious style of hot pot, a departure from more common varieties. The Chinese name, 亨记花胶鸡火锅, translates to "Fish Maw and Chicken Hot Pot," immediately signaling a culinary focus on rich, nourishing, and highly-regarded Cantonese-style broth. This specific preparation is known in Asian culinary circles as a comforting and deeply restorative meal, specializing in a complex, creamy, and flavorful soup base that acts as the heart of the dining experience.
Hot Pot House primarily serves the popular Comfort food category, offering a communal and interactive way to enjoy a meal. The interactive nature of hot pot—where diners cook fresh ingredients in a shared pot of simmering broth—makes it an engaging choice for couples, small groups, or a truly indulgent solo experience. While traditional Chinese restaurants often focus on prepared entrees, a hot pot establishment puts the customization and freshness directly in the hands of the patron.
However, local community feedback, which is crucial for New York diners, suggests a divided experience. While the concept and the potential for exceptional hot pot broth are clear, reviews indicate that the on-site dining atmosphere and prepared food items have received mixed, and sometimes highly critical, feedback. One customer noted that non-hot pot items like trotters and beef brisket tasted "less than mediocre," possibly suggesting a preference toward the hot pot base. Another review specifically mentioned significant concerns regarding "unsanitary" conditions and supplies left out in the dining area, strongly advising the use of takeout over Dine-in service. For new patrons, this suggests that the culinary focus should be on the core hot pot specialty, utilizing the convenient off-site service options.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Ordered trotters, chicken stew with potatoes, and slow cooked beef brisket. Trotters are acceptable, the other two are less than mediocre. Not saying they are premade as I have absolutely no proof, but definitely taste like premade food. (I called to order, and I was told food would be ready in 10min. 10 min doesn’t sound like so “slow cooked” to me.)
January 21 · Yao PengService was great and food was fine so why is this 2 stars? There's flies everywhere, only 2 tables (total), supplies are left everywhere, place is unsanitary, the ingredients have clearly been left out, etc. It's probably good take out but that's it, don't dine in.
March 05 · MichaelFish maw had a weird looking and taste, especially compared to other fish maw hotpot places. The soup had the same weird plastic/fishy taste that I can’t really describe… it’s not recommended
January 09 · Mengyao HuOrdered the signature fish maw chicken stew last Friday . It was amazing , very similar to the ones I had back in hometown . Chicken was tender and broth was very flavorful . 5/5
January 13 · Rong ZhuTHIS IS NOT A "HOTPOT RESTAURANT" This is a hotpot take out, with only two tables for eat in. This is very misleading, was coming here to eat in. They should correct this info.
