What is Worth Choosing
Choosing La Vicharra is choosing a genuine and robust taste of Peru without leaving the greater New York area. For local users, its value lies in its authenticity, variety, and accessible price point compared to high-end Manhattan establishments. Here is what is most worth choosing when you plan your visit:
The National Dish—Lomo Saltado: This is the undisputed star of the menu and the most-liked item by customers. The Lomo Saltado is a classic Peruvian stir-fry featuring sautéed strips of beef, onions, and tomatoes, served with French fries and white rice. It perfectly exemplifies the chifa (Chinese-Peruvian fusion) style and is consistently praised for its amazing flavor, good portion size, and overall quality. If you are trying Peruvian cuisine for the first time, this is the essential starting point.
Seafood and Ceviche: Given Peru's coastal location, seafood is a major pillar of its cuisine. The Ceviche de Pescado (diced fish filet marinated in lime juice and hot pepper) is a must-try, lauded for its freshness and perfect marinade. For a wider experience, the Ceviche Mixto (featuring fish, octopus, calamari, and shrimp) or the Arroz Con Mariscos (rice and seafood combination) are highly recommended. These options showcase the kitchen's mastery of fresh, vibrant flavors, truly serving the local specialty.
Lunch Specials and Value: For those working in the area or looking for an affordable midday meal, the $14.00 Lunch Specials (Lunch Executive and Lunch #1) offer exceptional value. They typically include a soup, an entree, and a soda, providing a full, hearty, and quick meal that satisfies without breaking the bank. It's a great way to sample different Peruvian staples on a budget.
Desserts and Beverages: Do not overlook the dessert menu. La Vicharra is recognized for having a Great Dessert selection. The Churros Con Helado De Vainilla and the traditional Crema Volteada (flan) are excellent ways to round out the meal. Paired with a Peruvian soft drink like Inca-Kola or a perfectly crafted cocktail, the experience becomes a delightful cultural immersion from start to finish. Patrons who enjoy a lively environment will appreciate the bar's offerings and the energetic atmosphere.
In short, La Vicharra is an accessible, fun, and authentic Peruvian culinary destination on Long Island that promises generous portions of flavorful comfort food and an overall engaging dining experience for groups, families, and solo diners alike.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We had such high hopes for this place and were so eager to have some beloved Peruvian cuisine as we were in town for a few days (wife's Peruvian). We ordered our usual suspects we typically try at any Peruvian restaurant we visit - the anticuchos (marinated beef hearts), the fish ceviche (ceviche de pescado) and the half order of Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken. These, along with Lomo Saltado, are by far our favorite go-to(s).Unfortunately the experience left us with a very bad taste in our mouths/souls (both figuratively, and literally)!!First and foremost, the beef heart skewers were way to thin to be charging $14 for a simple 7 thin pieces, but what's worse is they were over cooked, tough and chewy (something Anticuchos should NEVER be) and you can tell the meat was not fresh at all (likely days if not weeks old), but more importantly you can tell they did a quick and dirty seasoning job to try and impart some flavor - which they failed at miserably. As anyone knows, Anticuchos need to be marinated in a vinegar-and-spices-based marinade and allowed to marinate for at least 6-8 hours, but preferably over night - it's the only way to get rid of the strong "gamey" taste of heart and also allows for the vinegar to tenderize the meat. The chicken was ok tasting, seasoned well, but again, you could tell it was days old (not fresh). The ceviche was mediocre, but edible (and I was starving)!!We ate what we could stomach and when the gal asked how everything was tasting/going we told her the truth: the anticuchos were not good as evidenced by the fact that we tried a bite and put it right back on the plate (as it was too tough and did not taste good at all). Her response was she would bring it to the chef's attention. We told her it was ok, we jus wanted to get some to-go plates for the remainder of our food (mainly chicken, rice and lettuce (side salad) that we had left over. We told her (as politely as we could) thar we didn't want the order of beef heart skewers re-made and if possible, we would like to have them removed from our check. She said she'd check with the chef and simply walked away.We felt like we were hostage waiting for our to go box and or our check so we could leave. In the meanttime, she interacted with several customers for about 10-15mins, while we contemplated simply paying cash and walking out.She finally returned and said her chef said the beef heart skewers were made correctly and that they were sorry that we didn't like how well done they were made (even though she never gave us an option to request medium rare). She also said that unfortunately they could not refund or remove the dish from our check and instead told us to pick something else of equivalent value from the menu.We figured at this point we didn't want to chance it with anything they would have to prepare for us and instead opted for what we thought was a safe bet, a few ready made desserts - so we ordered 2 orders of Alfajores and 2 cremas volteadas (which is basically flan or similar to cream brulé, if you've never had flan) and we asked for them to be packaged to-go (big mistake). She came back after 5-10minutes and told us they could not make individual servings of Alfajor and instead gave us a "box of small alfajores" that are commonly sold, ready made, at other places like markets and such (not the usual pastry that is carefully and meticulously assembled fresh, but rather a weeks old box they must have had laying around. She likely thought since they were "to-go" we wouldn't notice the lack of quality/freshness, at least until it was too late. But she was mistaken. We tasted one of the little alfajores and it was evident this was some old moldy box leftover from a failed attempt to sell these- they were in similar and typical fashion, not fresh at all and tasted off and stale. This was the last straw!! I returned them and told her I couldn't belive she was serving these and stormed off. Needless to say: we DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! Muy mal servicio y mala comida 😓
June 04 · Rudy TamayoCame to La Vicharra because I was curious, and it was a spur of the moment kind of thing. I have to say, the food here was great. They have a large selection of Peruvian dishes that will leave your mouth watering. The staff were attentive and helpful. The only nitpick was that the cocktails were strong and that from the outside, the restaurant looked more like a corner bar, and the music kind of makes you feel you're in a cantina. I would still recommend it just to try other dishes
October 08 · Ivan MelendezHORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, MAKE SURE TO CALL THEM BEFORE ORDERING WITH DOORDASH OR UBER EATS, I PLACED A $77 ORDER ALMOST AT 1PM AND THEY CALL ME TO TELL ME THEY HAVE NO CHICKEN UNTIL 4PM AND DON’T HAVE THAT UPDATE ON THE APP, I ORDERED MOSTLY FOR THE CHICKEN SO THE ORDER HAD TO BE CANCELLED AND WHO KNOWS WHEN DOOR DASH WILL REFUND ME MY MONEY AND OF I WILL GET MY FULL REFUND, TERRIBLE WAY TO DO BUSINESS!.
August 31 · Cesar PimentelGreat place always fast fresh and big portions for the price ....no alcohol but who needs it when they have great food and juices....Ps always ask for the chef he can explain the menue better than me
November 28 · ALLISLANDHIPHOP HopIt’s okay. I’d come here instead of fast food or pizza. One of few places you could get the Guinea pig. Service is lacking, but that’s not the resturant’s fault - I’m only reviewing the food. Delivery driver lady refuses to drop off food at your door she tells you to come to her car lmao. With pio pio’s arrival this place will have to step it up.
