Le Chalet Introduce
In the vibrant heart of Midtown Manhattan, where the city’s energy is at its peak, there exists a hidden gem that offers a sophisticated and cozy retreat from the urban bustle. Le Chalet, an elegant lounge and cocktail bar located within the renowned L'Avenue at Saks, provides a unique and inviting atmosphere that feels a world away from the busy streets below. Unlike a traditional night club, Le Chalet offers a more intimate and refined experience, perfect for a relaxed evening with friends, a quiet date, or a pre-dinner drink. Its ambiance, designed by the world-famous architect Philippe Starck, evokes the feeling of an exclusive après-ski lodge in the French Alps, a theme that is both unexpected and incredibly charming. The warm, wood-paneled interiors and plush, cushy seating create an environment that is both trendy and exceptionally comfortable. This isn't a place for loud, pulsating music and crowded dance floors, but rather for conversation, expertly crafted cocktails, and a moment to unwind. The focus here is on quality, from the meticulously prepared drinks to the curated wine list. It’s the kind of place you stumble upon and are immediately impressed by, a sentiment echoed by many first-time visitors who are surprised by its hidden location and elevated experience. The staff is known for being attentive and professional, contributing to the overall sense of refined hospitality. Le Chalet has become a go-to spot for locals in the know and discerning visitors seeking a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere in one of the city's most iconic locations. The fusion of French design, a cozy atmosphere, and high-end beverages makes it a standout destination that caters to those who appreciate the finer things in life without the pretense often found in other high-end venues. The fact that it is a part of L'Avenue at Saks elevates its status, giving it a pedigree of quality and sophistication. It’s a place that invites you to linger and enjoy the moment, making it a perfect addition to any New Yorker's list of favorite local haunts. Its a place to sip and chat, to escape the noise and simply enjoy the moment.
Le Chalet's location is one of its most intriguing features, as it's not a standalone street-level establishment but is rather nestled within a larger, iconic landmark. It can be found at 8 E 50th St, New York, NY 10022, on the ninth floor of the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store. This unique placement makes it both a hidden gem and a highly accessible destination in the heart of Midtown. Its proximity to major transportation hubs is a significant advantage. The 5th Avenue-53rd Street station (E, M lines) and the 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center station (B, D, F, M lines) are both just a short walk away, making it easy to reach from virtually anywhere in the city. The location is also ideal for a post-shopping cocktail or a pre-theater drink, given its close proximity to Broadway and other Midtown attractions. While the building itself is a landmark, the entry to Le Chalet is designed to feel like an escape, with its own dedicated entrance and elevator that transports you directly into its sophisticated ambiance. This creates a sense of exclusivity and discovery. For those with mobility needs, the building and its various levels are fully accessible, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the lounge's cozy atmosphere. The fact that it’s high above Fifth Avenue also means it offers a serene environment away from the city noise. The lounge’s cozy feel and intimate setting are a direct contrast to the bustling crowds that fill the streets below, providing a perfect urban sanctuary. This juxtaposition of a tranquil, sophisticated space within a high-traffic retail location is a key part of its appeal. It's a place where you can relax and feel a sense of privacy even while being in the very center of the city. The terrace, which extends from the lounge, also offers a special experience with iconic views of the city, a feature that further enhances the appeal of its location. This combination of a prestigious address and easy accessibility makes Le Chalet a top choice for a convenient yet special night out in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had never heard of this place in Saks and came with some friends on a cocktail crawl. We sat in the lower level which has lots of cushy chairs/sofas. The cocktails were very well executed and priced fairly (~20). I had a Tom Cruz and a mezcal/espresso something. I was surprised that I liked it here; would come back.
January 06 · Dusty BGreat place for some drinks, it’s so cozy and the waiter was fantastic. We ordered some fries and they were not good. I really enjoy having some nuts while drinking but they only offer them for $9.
November 28 · Fernanda SancevicCame here on a Saturday around 5pm after doing a bit of shopping. The bar was quiet and almost every seat was available. The decor truly makes it feel like a french ski chalet! While it is in Saks, the prices of the wine were comparable to other upscale bars in NYC. We also ordered a side of fries to hold us over until dinner. For $12 I was expecting a small dish, but ended up with a huge plate. Great spot for a quick break from shopping and the hustle of 5th ave!
March 10 · A CA solid cocktail bar with food from the restaurant upstairs. Usually not too full, and with a kitschy chalet design. The major downside is that it's frequently closed for private events with no warning. Would be nicer if you could plan to be there with any regularity.
November 16 · Steven BurnettAmusing concept – chalet-themed bar in Saks, with a cocktail menu by Nico de Soto (Mace). The decor is over-the-top (decorative crutches, coffee table books, French classics (Gallimard nrf‽)), and the crowd is generally older and moneyed, but front of house is very welcoming and drinks are delicious. There’s a lovely terrace for summer, and cozy chalet for winter.A secret hideaway in the middle of the city!
