Just paid $60.00 Uber Eats for Legume, Stew Chicken, and 2 orders of Black Rice. Everything is burnt! Can’t even taste the food flavor if it has any because of the strong burnt taste in everything. What type of business gives burnt food to their customers. Never again!!! Legume so bitter. Tiny burnt pieces mixed in. The meat in the Legume burnt. The chicken in the stew chicken burnt! The black rice burnt. Terrible experience. Everything just taste burnt. What type of place is this!! Wow!I was deceived by the dishonest reviews. Hands down worse Haitian food I ever had in my life. It’s so bad to throw food out, but we couldn’t deal with this. Please do better for customers who are spending hard earn money to support your business! - France Paris-Sanon

What is Worth Choosing

For first-time visitors or seasoned patrons of Caribbean cuisine in New York, the menu at Le Goûter Kitchen offers several dishes that are worth trying for an authentic Haitian experience. The heart of Haitian dining lies in its richly seasoned meats and hearty stews, and the menu here is no exception.

One of the most famous and highly recommended Haitian dishes is Griot (fried pork). It is a classic that showcases the deep, savory flavors of Haitian seasoning, often served crispy on the outside and tender within. Similarly, the Tassot Kabrit (fried goat) and Kabrit En Sauce (goat in sauce) are excellent choices for anyone looking to sample the bold flavor profile of goat meat, a staple in the cuisine. These dishes are traditionally paired with rice—the Black Rice, or Diri Djon Djon, is a cultural delicacy made with a special mushroom that gives it a unique color and flavor, and is a must-try for an authentic experience.

Another highly authentic and flavorful choice is the Legume. This is a vegetable mash or stew, typically made with ingredients like eggplant, chayote, and spinach, and often served with meat or fish. It represents the grounding, hearty side of Haitian cooking and is known for its complex texture and seasoning. For a lighter, yet traditional start, the Pumpkin Soupe (Soup Joumou), traditionally eaten on Haitian Independence Day, is a rich and comforting squash-based soup that has immense cultural significance.

For those who prefer seafood, the Lambi (conch) at $42.50 is a high-end delicacy that speaks to the island’s bounty. Finally, to truly round out the meal, selecting one of the traditional Haitian beverages, such as the tropical and refreshing Passion Fruit or the earthy Sorsop juice, offers a vibrant contrast to the savory main courses. These offerings collectively highlight the range of flavors that Le Goûter Kitchen aims to bring to the Brooklyn dining table, giving New Yorkers a genuine taste of Haiti right on Nostrand Avenue.

However, as with any local dining establishment, it is important for prospective patrons to be aware of the varied customer experiences reported in public reviews. While Le Goûter Kitchen seeks to provide a genuine taste of Haitian food, some customers have voiced concerns regarding the quality of execution, specifically mentioning issues with burnt food, bitterness in stews like Legume, and the overall taste experience not meeting expectations. These comments suggest that consistency in food preparation may be an area of concern for the restaurant. New York diners, known for their high standards, often rely on customer feedback to make informed choices. Therefore, while the menu offers all the beloved classics of Haitian cuisine, potential customers are advised to consider these mixed public reviews when deciding to place an order, particularly for delivery or takeout services.

Operating Hours:

According to current delivery and takeout platforms, Le Goûter Kitchen generally maintains hours from 9:30 AM to 10:00 PM for both pickup and delivery, catering to the New York demand for food throughout the day. It's always a good practice, however, to confirm these hours by phone or on a current ordering platform before planning a visit or placing an order, as local restaurant hours can frequently change. The availability of food from late morning until late evening makes it a versatile option for any mealtime.
