★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is the real deal: local, totally authentic, no frills. I speak a small amount of Spanish, and the staff was super nice and patient, though they did laugh a bit when I asked for my eggs sunny side up (I didn’t know how else to order it — I guess just go with “normal” if you’re not sure!)I had the mangú con los tres golpes for breakfast, recommended by someone else’s review here. The portion, including passion fruit juice, was absolutely huge, and it only set me back $14.I’m glad I knew what I was getting beforehand, because there wasn’t a menu; it’s the sort of place where you just go up and order because most people know what they want already. If you don’t speak much Spanish and don’t know much about Dominican cuisine, it can be a little intimidating, but it’s worth it.
January 15 · Doug GirardotI don’t write many reviews, but I want to prevent others from being taken advantage of.We walked in and asked for a menu and she responded that everything was available and that we just needed to say what we wanted. No menu needed. This should have been the first sign that something was off. The three of us ate a lunch that shockingly cost $66! We all had arroz, habichuelas, and carne, each had a juice (by the way, not fresh, more bottled with fructose syrup) and we shared an order of plantains and ripe plantains. We were overcharged, but there was no menu with prices for us to prove otherwise. The food tasted good, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t $66 good! My wife is Dominican and we are no strangers to eating and preparing Dominican cuisine.I recommend asking for the prices up-front.
February 19 · Christian R.Amazing food only to go.
June 14 · J Mthe food is delicious and they have great customer experience. I love this place, I recommend everybody to go .
April 19 · Luz AcostaI have lived in the heights all my life. And "marilu's" is by far the best and the closest thing to to authentic/homemade dominican food. You can't go wrong with a lunch or order special. Their "Moro" style rice is superb. Every time I eat from here it reminds me of my late grandmothers food. And I've had it all, chicken, steak, fish, ribs, oxtail. You name it, they have it. Breakfast m, lunch and dinner.
